it is actually kind of bananas how unitary executive theorists have taken a straightforward clause requiring the president to "faithfully execute the laws" and transformed it into a grant for the exercise of limitless unenumerated power.
The Take Care Clause was a byproduct of the lessons learned from the Glorious Revolution that the executive should not be able to dispense with the law promulgated by the legislature. It was not a constitutional provision to empower the executive branch— but to constrain it!

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.

Disabled people do not owe you their medical history.

They do not owe you their diagnosis.

They do not owe you an explanation.

Benefits are exceedingly hard to get and the process is punishing & dehumanizing.

No one is doing it for fun.

If Hegseth's "declassification in my mind" legal theory held water, then all of their complaints about Hillary's e-mail server were for show. Like Hegseth, Hillary was an OCA at the time she sent and received those e-mails. Under Hegseth's legal theory, Hillary had the power to "declassify" them

Yup. This.
Remember Thomas Jacob Sanford, the Iraq veteran who burned up a Mormon Church in September? Remember Nigel Edge, the Iraq veteran sniper who shot up a bar from his boat in Cape Fear, also in September?

Keep track of how differently we speak of them than Rahmanullah Lakanwal.

@vaspider.gay, I believe we have specifically discussed this very topic before.
one real problem with contemporary evangelicalism is the tendency to try and appeal to the Hebrew proof texts without reading any Hebrew outside of specific concepts used in sermons
The brief discussion of the Hebrew is also just not true. It treats the prepositional כנגדו (comparative prepositional prefix; נגד, also a preposition meaning opposite, corresponding to, in front of, facing, etc; then the third person possessive suffix) as if it were a noun without any citations

The thing about Star Trek is that the majority of it has the crew spending most of the episode trying to figure out, through arguing and investigating, what's the right thing to do in a complicated situation and I don't think any shows do that now? Like in a Very Special Episode but not all the time

Sadness. There were a few years in the late 90s and early 00s where I saw this guy in just about every third film I watched. I used to call him the guy Cuba Gooding Jr wanted to be when he grew up. But, you know, in a good way.

A comprehensive new map of Roman roads has boosted the known size of the empire’s land transport network by almost 60 per cent – and it is available for anyone to explore online.
Digital map lets you explore the Roman Empire's vast road network
Archaeologists have compiled the most detailed map yet of roads throughout the Roman Empire in AD 150, totalling almost 300,000 kilometres in length
