At this point X is like 1950s Vienna, a whole place made up entirely of spies, running ops against other spies, with no non-spy people. Or maybe like a 1971 Black Panthers convention where 3/4 of the attendees are conintelrpo.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert not as similar as people think. Greene grew up in Forsyth County, Georgia, which is incredibly upper-class. She went to UGA and inherited her dad's business. Boebert was a dropout, was on Welfare and came from a single family.

I was at the Sierra Club during the period described in this article and although I have my criticisms, it gets the issues in the Club fundamentally wrong. A 🧵

Where are all the news stories about how someone slipped the marijuana or the fentanyl gummies into a child's Halloween candy. Rituals matter.

Just going to point out here that you don’t have to read the WaPo or NYT to get news. The Guardian’s US edition is a great newspaper! Subscribe!
Here’s a free link to a house editorial that illustrates the collapse of the new Washpost Opinion page.

It’s important to read it, because it is so poorly written and reasoned, and it shows how quickly an editorial institution can fall completely apart under spineless leadership.

It shows how far into authoritarianism we’ve descended that journalists can be fired for simply acknowledging what a right-wing activist said and not participating in collective hagiography.

Democracy dies in darkness indeed.

The Wall Street Journal needs to issue a full retraction and apology to the trans community for this. Nothing less will suffice. They put us all in danger and recklessly put out incorrect information.

So after two straight days of Republicans saying trans people and the Left did this, threatening full on violence, it turns out the suspect is a politically unaffiliated white dude who was trained to use guns by his Republican law enforcement dad? Do I have that right?

Missing the opportunity to educate the public about what Trump is really up to (controlling Dem cities in anticipation of 2026 elections) and exercising maximum control over every aspect of American life. And in the process setting up Trump to move on Baltimore & other cities next.

$175b federal money annually goes to highway projects that end up costing municipalities revenue and forcing us to buy and maintain cars that reduce our personal wealth.

More than half of government money spent on highways comes not from drivers but from property taxes, income taxes, & sales taxes.

2026 will be the 250th anniversary of the Decl of Independence. What is the right doing but creating $200b in concentration/work camps. What is the media doing but … helping. What is the Dem party doing … nothing.

What is the left going to do? That message is meaningful, and ours for the taking.

What are we supposed to do about the fact that a huge number of supposedly “serious” intellectuals are clearly socially networked with race science bigots, and at best only one degree of separation from out-and-proud neo-Nazis calling for genocide and extermination of Jews?

Someone put this on the wall in the NYT newsroom.
• Mamdani is not in the country illegally
• He does not have any connection to 9/11 or jihadist terrorism
• Mamdani hasn’t actually said or done anything antisemitic
• He did not call to ‘globalize the intifada’
• He’s not a communist

I think one of the big takeaways here is not that Mamdani is a generational talent as some assert but rather that people in this country are so hungry for politicians with actual vision that any reasonably charismatic young socialist who puts in a strong ground game can pull this off elsewhere

I’ve never seem anything like this attached to a quote from an academic. But it is in keeping with the right’s contention that nobody has any legitimacy to speak out—or rule—against Trump if they’ve ever supported Democrats. WaPo is beyond broken.
