When trying to sleep with the sound of the storm or when a storm is only in my head, I try to return my mind to the peace of the tent after walking all day. Deep in the forested mountains of the Vercors. Falling asleep to the soundtrack of owls & animals of the night. My own Innisfree.

When gates open at French & German flea markets, the first wave of buyers are invariably men, with shoulder bags & torches. They ask each stall holder for jewelery (that may contain gold), any LPs & any Pokemon. I never knew what the Pokemon was, but today I found one on the beach. #allwashedup

The cheering for each Scotland goal tonight shook our block of flats and rolled around Lochrin Basin. On nights like this it's great to live in the centre of the city.

Thinking about how the perfectly sane and humane - and not remotely radical - words coming out of this man’s mouth makes him an outlier in today’s political landscape.
A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

I’m not going to pretend it’s easy to say something in the moment when you witness the president do this and you’re aboard Air Force One with all the uniformed officers and secret service and fancy wood accents, but this is really an instance where you should. people.com/donald-trump...

A welcome, dry day in the Isle of Man. 2 hours around the coast, no peoples, but plenty of company - ravens, choughs & singing seals.

Cruel. Callous. Cowardly.

The public are seeing this Labour government for exactly who they are.

We all have a responsibility to make them pay at the ballot box.

Reject the hate. Reject them.

This is not who we are. Let's make hope normal again.

Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?

Will they be taking out gold fillings at the borders as well? Valuable stuff that gold & not at all reminiscent of anything within living history at all. Mahmood, Labour have got this badly, badly wrong.

Who would have imagined we would ever hear this from a Labour government

No Shabana Mahmood.
It is not.
Global finance tore Britain apart in ‘08. We let them off, let austerity ravage it for years, completely f*cked it with Brexit, then Covid added a rancid cherry.
What’s tearing Britain apart is scaremongering about illegal immigration.
You should be f**king ashamed.

Shabana Mahmood: immigration is tearing Britain apart.

Me: the constant politicisation of immigration to appeal to base racist instincts to cover up the constant failures and weakness of central government is tearing Britain apart.

It didn’t take Mahmood long to out hate May, Patel, Badenoch and Braverman. Her vile bigotry makes Cooper look almost saintly. I bet there will be some defections to the Greens as a result.

The beatings will continue until morale improves says Shabana Mahmood, the latest nasty little bigot to play Farage at his own game. It looks as if he has already won.
This version of the Labour government would try to deport my Polish great-grandfather to the Soviet Union.

Cannot express how deeply I hold this government in contempt
UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Aside from the cruelty of this, I’d just like to know why it’s ok to ignore and disappoint liberal/progressive voters.
Why do governments chase Farage and his voters, thinking that will neutralise them. It’s NEVER worked. He’s leading in the polls and his ideas have ruined us. WTF are you doing?
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities
