Azz for short. Multi-field dilettante, writer, crocheter, hobbyist, chatterbox. Former professional squeaky wheel. I bump into things and find bugs. Alaska-grown, previously of Greater SF Bay Area, PNW-er. They/them.
"It’s a grand night for singing,
The moon is flying high,
And somewhere a bird
Who is bound he’ll be heard,
Is throwing his heart at the sky."

Cooking the turkey? This is your reminder to check if the turkey fits in the roasting pan.

We’re spatchcocking ours; I have to go out to get a bigger baking sheet tomorrow.

You can also get a sore throat with the flu which is expected to be very bad this year.
Patient came in with sore throat. While waiting for rapid Strep test result we glanced back at the Covid-19 RAT result: positive. Reminder that masking in health care makes sense, if you don’t want everyone in your waiting room to go home sick, your staff to get sick, and physicians to get sick.

It's time for everyone's favorite chronologically unanchored holiday, The Story of the Lizard in the Leg.
Because people keep asking, the Story of The Lizard In That Dude's Leg. Some caveats:

1. This happened more than twenty years ago. There are no pictures. There was a small article in a local paper with, again, no pictures (I'm assuming that's what the producers of 9-1-1: LONE STAR found).

My dad was hosting and asked for any dish requests. I mentioned canned cranberry sauce, and he said nope, he's doing a home-made version, that canned stuff isn't touching his table. So I showed up with my own can, complete with googly eyes, and sat it next to my plate as my plus one.

Related: on Saturday, Belovedest solved the mystery of the random fridge butterings, and it turns out we a) need a new can; b) must not lose that can's lid
NEVER FORGET: If you keep a can of reddiwhip (or whatever equiv you like) in your fridge you can just grab it and have a quick bit of whipped cream whenever you like. It's just a thing you can do.

The door open buttons in my cancer center patient safety bathrooms are Big Red Buttons
It's the ones on the infusion floors, there's clearly an override at the nurse station so they don't have to break down the door every time a patient needs help and can't get up
[My cancer is under control now]
Back in the day, the datacenter LiveJournal was hosted in had the requisite emergency power off button in the event of fire suppression systems becoming necessary. It was placed on the wall right next to the exit door ... where it looked precisely like a button to open an automatic door.
This is where @oggie.bsky.social and @kingfox.bsky.social gather in a dark corner of a virtual bar and reminisce about the time a guy unplugged the wrong thing to plug in a vacuum cleaner.

Just so it's clear. It's not allowing AI because it's trying to create a clean dataset for training AI. It's not because any of the involved parties actually care about human created art.

Demons can lie to you. You have to rebuke them categorically, rather than fold when they say the right words.
Vine is being rebooted under the name diVine, with funding from Twitter’s former CEO Jack Dorsey.

The app plans to feature more than 10,000 previously archived Vines and does not allow AI-generated content.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

I have a fun hypothetical for the technical among us! (For certain values of fun, heh.) The scenario: You run a website. It doesn't have a mobile app: the only way to access it is in-browser. You are deeply, morally opposed to any form of invasive tracking or data-gathering on your users.
