December 25th. The day the Fellowship departs Rivendell to destroy the One Ring.

Whatever you celebrate, may you have the courage to take the first steps to defy and endure against the dark, and rekindle light into the world.

Sometimes I feel like posting online involves a roll on a random encounter table. You just wanted to gripe, but now some autistic is trying to engage in a discussion because he doesn’t realize that. Roll for initiative.

(I am that autist. I am very sorry)

I still maintain "Van Helsing" should have been a musical with songs by Jim Steinman. It would still have flopped but would probably have gone on to become one of the most beloved films ever with stage versions in cities worldwide raking in billions.

Desecration.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I know October is over but listen, there’s no reason we can’t extend spooky season all the way to Christmas. Who’s going to stop us? Mariah Carey? The guardian of holiday cheer and all things jolly? Possibly… but we won’t know if we don’t try.

I wanted Black Phone 2 to be good so bad, but what an abysmal sequel! The wretched script for that movie felt more violent than anything I saw on screen. Starring Ethan Hawke’s voiceover and a plank of wood that hijacks the movie for an emotional filibuster every twenty minutes. Great visuals though

So, hot take but actually the solution is not quotas (obviously) but just more jobs in the academic humanities.

Part of the problem with the humanities jobs crisis is you get hired basically sight unseen (straight from PhD) or not at all and I'd buy that process is more ideological.
that Demsas piece about GOP affirmative action is exactly as bad as you'd think. this is Chait-level shit. this is Conor Friedersdorf quality.

My favorite genre of #OSR blogpost are the ones that take some weird assertion made by some of the oldest versions of the game and extrapolate what that implies about the setting or world.

For the thousandth time I demand my gigantically overblown and baroque ELRIC OF MELNIBONÉ prestige series, one trillion dollars per episode, sweeping vistas, enormous sea battles, all the gold accents are real gold, wig budget bigger than the GDP of Portugal, etc
If you could adapt any work of literature into a TV series (and you can only pick one), which would you pick and why?

We'll go first. Nalo Hopkinson's Midnight Robber. Seeing that world come to life with walls of Caribbean culture would be real fascinating to see on TV. So good.

Your turn!

The Locke and Demosthenes was by far the most ridiculous part of Ender's Game and yet we live out its core premise of how vocabulary and ideas spread on here every day.

I always see people insist that the OSR TTRPG space is like ten meters up its own ass or something, but truly I’ve never found more TTRPG content that’s more nuts and bolts in other game spheres. Cannot understand this discourse.

Just now found out that the titular streetcar in “A Streetcar Named Desire” does not grant wishes, and the story is about abuse. I feel mislead and honestly betrayed.
