I don’t think these are fitting comparisons. We took kids out of cotton mills but we still had mills. We can smooth out AI’s environmental cost, but I don’t see how you soften its labor impact, without disabling the technology itself. That’s where I think history suggests it isn’t going away.

What’s the proposed off ramp here? Legislation? UBI for human artists? Has there ever been a prior incidence in human history where a technology was abandoned because of its negative labor impacts? I know I’m dooming hard but I sort of feel like this mirrors climate change- we blew past prevention.
