Color me surprised. Or not.
Yet another study showing the federal Opportunity Zone is flowing predominantly to neighborhoods already showing signs of gentrification & probably subsidizing continued gentrification rather than fostering responsible reinvestment.

Drivers have killed or injured at least 3 children/youth in as many months in Montgomery County. When will @montgomerycountymd.bsky.social and its DOT step up to make evidence-based infrastructure changes that we know work to save lives?! @evanmglass.bsky.social

When we talk about safe routes to school, we need to think about the various definition of safety and what mobility justice actually looks like for all students/families.
Horrifying, heartbreaking, and something everyone who counts themselves as a member of the Safe Routes to School movement should absolutely be speaking out about.

I'm reading a history of the US Postal Service and learned that Wells Fargo has been exploiting people for profit since its inception: In 1852, "its customers paid twice for their mail, but in a state with little gov't delivery, they didn't have a choice."

The building is in a 27 million dollar foreclosure filed by Wells Fargo. The next day, Wells Fargo filed an emergency motion for receivership. The fascist regime kindly emptied the building for donor Wells Fargo.

Excited about this. Like that gerrymandering board game but for school boundaries.
I'm very proud to share a new, first-of-its-kind analysis and data tool from my team at @educationwork.newamerica.org.
Redrawing the Lines is a first-ever look at how, if states draw school district borders with equity as the goal, they can HUGELY reduce funding inequality and segregation. #edusky
Redistricting School Systems Can Increase Funding Fairness and Decrease Segregation

Why are parents carrying so much of the burden of the delivery of public goods - clean air, public education, healthy kids and teachers. These are policy and budgetary choices not forgone conclusions.
Clean air is not complicated, and costs less than $10 per kid per year to do. This is the 4th year of managing this for my son's school. What happens when he moves to the next school, who will keep doing this for the other kids? We need clean air standards and legislation.

Some days the biggest threat to my family’s ability to get to school safely on foot or bike is the behavior of some parents who drive.

It scares me that these drivers are willing to drive so unsafely at their own kids’ school, where they are likely to know the families they’re threatening.

"A bus ride of less than one hour and no missed class time is a basic educational right." This is not true in the legal/moral public ed's structure. As I said recently, “We need to advocate for public education, and the access to that education, as fundamental rights."

I don't want to start a thing so I'll just say that there will never be a good argument for privatizing USPS. That would be like privatizing libraries. The aim of services isn't to be run for profit, they are for serving the greater good, which USPS has been extremely successful at.

I’ve lived my entire life hearing people argue in favor of privatization. I have yet to see privatization make anything better. The only thing privatization accomplishes is to remove accountability.
