Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.

Turns out Clammy Sam Altman actually did request help federal assistance for building data centers in a letter sent last week to the US government, specifically saying that the CHIPS act investment credit should apply to power, GPUs and data center construction.

Agreed. People who are hungry should get to eat - and that should not be conditional.
People should use their SNAP benefits for whatever they think they need. Both because any effort you make to micromanage purchases is inefficient and cumbersome and because people who need help aren’t obligated to perform for or satisfy others in order to eat.
