It just feels like everything is being flattened. Rape, genocide, wildfires, etc etc is all just fodder for internet discourse rather than turning points that lead to… something, anything better or different.
It’s so true. It’s actually horrifying to see the memes and jokes about this.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

This chart is absolutely essential.

It explains why Trump removed America from the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2018.

Because it was *working*.

Trump needed a cause for war, so he manufactured it. This has all been in the works for some time now. He was never "weighing options."

i don't mean to come off as rude but we cannot sustain ourselves on outrage and anger forever. i think it's even more important now to post about other things too. even if it gets less engagement. you never know who will find it cool and interesting.
It’s a real mindfuck when most ppl wanna post about their latest failures/successes, or weird shit they saw in the wild or cool stuff they made…but the country is a cesspool so cool/weird shit seems trite.

Don’s right. Trumpism not just permits, but demands, overt hostility to a wide array of American values, institutions, culture, and people. Trumpism hates much more of America than it loves.
Two things:
1. The purpose of these visa checks is to reduce any sort of dissent against the Trump administration globally.
2. Social media posts that reflect "hostile attitudes our citizens, culture, government or institutions" would disqualify the majority of Trump admin officials.

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

It's hard to overstate how destructive the reflexive "this is a distraction!" stuff that politicians and commentators and people are always peddling.

Everything is happening all at once. That's how authoritarianism works. If you can't navigate and synthesize this, you're not meeting the moment.

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

The MSM is fascinated by the Trump/Musk feud; but the actual story - which is one of venal oligarchs fighting over the spoils of a nation they are gutting - is oddly being ignored.
If you strip away the egos and shitposting, the Trump-Musk feud is really an argument over how comprehensively to screw over poor and working people—over how best to make our society a meaner, crueler, less equal, more savage place.

New piece from me:

The Real Reason for the Trump-Musk Feud is Uglier than You Think
Strip away the ego contest, and what you really see here is a competition about how screw over poor and working people more effectively.

worth remembering that when Trump announced a travel ban in 2017, people literally went to airports to protest. Eight years later, Trump announces a new one and it's not even front page news.

My suggested answer to these questions is we currently have a president systematically dismantling our constitutional republic, alliances & institutions while committing unprecedented fraud & grift, so I’m not really concerned about an 82 year old retired president right now.

This is most of what the Founders of America were opposed to, what they set up a new government to avoid
*Open bribery
*Masked armed officials arresting residents without warrants, citizens who try to intervene
*Arrests for engaging in non-violent speech
*Destruction of government capacities
*Massive economic uncertainty and damage
*Unprecedented targeting of government power against political enemies
