Is there a term for absconding with a kid?
So immigration agents drove off in a citizen’s car with a toddler in the back.

**Then DHS refused to answer questions about it.**

INCREDIBLE. An all-time great World Series featuring an incredible number of Hall of Fame-caliber players who did Hall of Fame-caliber things…. And where supporting players still managed to overshadow them in many ways. Truly spectacular.

Good morning!

Last night, Illinois’ legislature passed a law, SB2111, which will fund a major expansion of service for the Chicago region’s transit systems, thanks to new revenue sources.

The law also takes a major step forward in coordination between agencies.

On the sales tax piece: I don't love the sales tax. It's regressive. But for context, if a person spends $1000 per month on non-grocery consumer purchases — which is a lot! — this new tax would cost them $2.50/mo. And the value of better transit to lower-income folks is substantial.

Wrote earlier today about how badly Dave Roberts’ infatuation with Blake Treinen hurt the Dodgers this season. On top of blowing so many games trying to “get Treinen right,” it took valuable reps away from young relievers with little experience who they now need:

like so many days since the blitz, today was terrifying. but the terror is outpaced by the burning hot solidarity of parents blocking school streets, hundreds of neighbors walking patrol, bicyclists chasing SUVs broadcasting whereabouts, and whistling winemoms bringing the fire of one thousand suns.

It’s great to see misguided mandates on public transit emissions go from a policy wonk topic, to getting real attention.

$$$ goes further getting more people on transit than switching to costly and unreliable battery-only buses.

Muni wants exemption from CA pollution rules. It's a no-brainer.
SFMTA plans to beg relief from the state's zero-emissions mandate. It’d be crazy not to ask. It’d be crazier for the state to say no.

Some 🔥 insights into transportation and housing in this conversation.

People moving to the South for cost-of-living – "on the West Coast and in the Northeast, the housing markets are calcified" and "the friction of trying to support a family life in some of those places" – and cultural reasons.
