Info on its energy gobbling should be in every news story about AI. It is newsworthy. It is inseparable from the tech itself.
It's all fun and games until …

"Professor Gina Neff of Queen Mary University London told the BBC #ChatGPT is "burning through energy", and the data centres used to power it consume more electricity in a year than 117 countries."

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

It’s always Joe that’s causing shit 😂
Joe Russo says AI use is common in Hollywood, but people are afraid to admit it. Not him or Anthony Russo, though — per a recent interview, the brothers used AI for voice modulation in The Electric State (which reportedly had a $320 million budget).

1. What you see here is clearest illustration why things are so messed up and why it cannot get any better until this asymmetry is addressed.

Put simply: the right-wing has narrative dominance.

Netflix has 4748 movies right now. Subtract the "originals" nobody cares about and there's 2503.

How many of those are worth watching? The average blockbuster had twice that. @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social has 150,000.

Fuck streaming & paying forever. When I wanna see a movie, I'm getting it on disc.

Pilot season was the best R&D/farm system. all those pilots that DIDN'T get made put new great actors & writers on the radar for execs/producers to make an even BETTER bet on the next one. And all those artists/crews improved their craft/made a living.

The system now? Penny wise and dollar foolish.
Studios are SO unwilling to take any risks. Instead they spend YEARS developing, making creators go back to the drawing board OVER & OVER instead of trusting and taking a risk. Then, by some miracle when these shows finally debut & aren't hits, things get worse. You need more shows to get more hits.
In animation we hear "We want the next Bluey". The cost of doing business used to be making a hundred shows to get a Spongebob. All the other shows? A lot will still make money, and the talent who worked on them could give you the next Bluey.

I'm still kind of processing the loss of Monolith as an entity. Like, obviously the biggest concern is with those who lost their jobs today, but that company had a storied history full of amazing titles across various genres and just... Poof. Fourth quarter earnings said fuck your institution.

All HP Lovecraft stories begin like “I will try and relay the events as best as I can manage, though what I encountered that September night may not be able to be expressed in human language, nor be comprehended by the human mind” and then the story boils down to ‘I saw a building that was large’.

The point is *all* films - whether consciously or not - are in some way necessarily "political" by default, just by virtue of being made in a specific culture at a specific time and in a specific place. There's no such thing as culturally (and thus politically) neutral filmmaking - its impossible.
This shit makes me so angry. Like, have a basic understanding of how your chosen field of art functions, dipshit: whether you consciously want to be political or not, nothing - not even horror films - are made in a vacuum. Everything, somehow, will always reflect the context within which it is made

What he's announcing is a concentration camp. A deeply illegal, unconstitutional, anti-human rights atrocity. Anyone who supports this is complicit. Anyone in any federal service, military or otherwise, is morally obligated to refuse to carry out any orders related to this deeply criminal act.
Trump announces an executive order authorizing a 30,000 capacity migrant detention center in Guantanamo.
