#Archaeologist🏺, got a hat (no whip though). Once known as "Yunus" among Bedouins. Demanding a revival of the venerable profession of the #ExpeditionPainter👨‍🎨.

🎵 It's the Most #Liminal Time of the Year. 🎶

That special time #BetweenTheYears again - the old one not quite over, the new one not yet begun.

Did a small stone from #GöbekliTepe represent the very beginnings of #writing? Did archaeologists really overlook such an important find all this time? - Spoiler: No, it doesn’t. And we didn’t.

What historians (and other scholars do) is create knowledge. We should use that phrase more and talk about what it means. I think we don't, and it's part of why AI enthusiasts are confused when we don't readily agree that our work can be replicated/replaced by their products.

Absolutely appreciating Irving #Finkel and his out-of-the-box thinking, so naturally followed up curiously here since this is so closely tied to my own work and research (in fact, the piece shown by Jason here was one of the first I've drawn after I started working at #GöbekliTepe) ...
Irving Finkel appeared on Lex Fridman's podcast and offered a "controversial" claim that a plaquette from Göbekli Tepe is evidence of writing that archaeologists are refusing to acknowledge. It turns out he's startlingly ignorant of the academic literature. www.jasoncolavito.com/blog/irving-...
