Alright, one more. Because the big fancy stuff is cool and all, but sometimes it's the small thing which really take your breath.

Like … how about some #Neanderthal #fingerprint on an at least 80,000 y/p inconspicuous lump birch bark pitch? 🤯😉

Oh, those are wonderful. You never know if curators have spotted the fingerprints, so it doesn't hurt to ask them if they've seen them. Here's a terracotta votive head that's quite literally covered in fingerprints. Zoom in! Of course, they would have been hidden under paint.

Neanderthals: leaving their mark—literally. 🖐️ A 43,000-year-old fingerprint found on a face-shaped rock in Spain may be the oldest human fingerprint ever discovered. Art or ancient emoji? You decide. #NeanderthalArt #AncientFingerprint #Archaeology #SymbolicThought
43,000-year-old human fingerprint is world's oldest — and made by a Neanderthal

Yep, that's a thumbprint on the ear! You can understand how it got there - done when the potter attached the ear by pressing it onto the wet clay. You can see additional parts of fingerprints on the eye and around the top of the trunk, where it attached to the head. 🏺 2/

They're everywhere!🥳
A new study of caulking and cordage fragments of the oldest known wooden plank boat in Scandinavia revealed the presence of a partial fingerprint in the tar used to waterproof it.

#AncientFingerprint 😍👏🏻
The figurine is from Myrina, Turkey, part of the Roman province of Asia Prima (Greek Aeolia), ca. 100 BCE. It's painted with vibrant pigments: blue, pink, red, white.

Best of all is the *thumbprint* of the potter on the knee of the older woman (guess who found this?). 🏺 2/

Today after I was finished with why I was there I had a look at the other artefacts for fun (although I've been there dozens of times, every time something new draws my attention inside these silent display cases). Anyway, I found new #ancientfingerprint s 😃
