This is a wonderful and heartbreaking and clever book about fighting Nazis.

It's one of the best things I've read this century.

Was listening to the audiobook while walking my dog and found myself sobbing, blinded by tears, on the side of a dirt road in rural Massachusetts.
Today only, there's an ebook promotion for Code Name Verity for $2.99 (usually $9.99). I've included all the links that fit here - feel free to share!

Alt text: The first transgender suicide hotline is now up and running in the U.S. You can reach Trans Lifeline at 877-565-8860

(Additional info from me: Trans Lifeline's been around since 2014. It is available Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm EST. All operators are trans, & they won't call 911 w/o your consent.)
Might save a life.

We've decided to cancel Prime altogether. I know not everyone can do this, but if you can, please consider. I can't avoid all huge corps, but I have the ability to downsize my dependence on them & be choosy. Off to get a Costco membership....

Crypto guy claims to have built an LLM-based tool to detect errors in research papers; funded using its own cryptocurrency; will let coin holders choose what papers to go after; it's unvetted and a total black box—and Nature reports it as if it's a new protein structure.

The Guardian is reporting that Trump is openly violating a court order, and has transferred multiple transgender women to men's facilities.

We know in Florida, transgender women are having their hair shorn, feminine items confiscated, and pulled off medication.

This is inhumane and illegal.

I'm using @5calls.org and writing postcards and wearing #RedForEd today. I'm supporting good folks running for local offices this year. (Get involved in local politics!) I'm dealing with my anxiety by doing something, anything. Hope you are, too. ✊🏻

I support and am happy the party came together to stop this.

However, this is what they should be doing on EVERYTHING. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it - we are in an existential crisis as a country. We’re either going to emerge as Americans, or as something else.
1. Today, Senate Democrats showed spine, and killed a national transgender sports ban bill via filibuster.

Not a SINGLE Democrat voted for cloture.

S. Baum writes about what happened today, including some of the speeches.

Senate Dems Show Spine, And National Sports Ban Bill Dies
The failed legislation reflects a wider effort to disallow trans women (or anyone suspected of being a trans woman) from women’s sports and spaces.

Seconded. Can we do a write-in to legislators? Something, anything?
#TeamRhetoric I sure hope that NCTE and CCCC are mobilizing at this very moment with a statement objecting to this terrible action. Image description: Washington Post piece saying that Trump is signing an EO designating English as the national language.

I personally consider the boycott a success because it was a baby practice action for people who have never done that before. People got on board! They got to feel what it was like! It was easy! And when they get asked to do something next, they’ll have an experience to build off of.

I'm using @5calls.org to contact my legislators every day. Most days I make 1 or 2 calls. The app is great: it lists issues, summarizes each. You click to call a rep, and then read a script to a person or voicemail. Take it from this introvert: it's easy!
