as a grantwriter, the lack of unrestricted funding is a MASSIVE burden on nonprofits. everyone wants to fund a new shiny pilot program that makes them look like innovators. they don’t want to help make your tried and tested programs that have served the community for 50 years more sustainable

Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

I just finished a four-year term as a journal editor, and I agree with all this. I didn't completely delegate decisions to the reviewers; part of respecting their time and effort is taking an "I'll take it from here" approach.
Among the many maddening things about journal publishing is the total lack of assurance that good faith efforts at revision will result in a pub rather than endless rounds of review & maybe still rejection. Could all be solved with a higher bar for R&R decisions & more decisive editorial leadership.
