One of the police union issues in San Antonio was that police were having their alimony and legal fees for divorce subsidized by the city so that they "wouldn't get penalized just because they got a divorce" (as a spouse would be entitled to some portion) which was just totally absurd lol
Ordinary regular poor people trying to live their lives and raise their children: Can we get a $25k loan from the city to use as a down payment on a home in a nice neighborhood?

Governments: Absolutely not

Cops making about $75k/yr base: Can we

Governments: YES AND YOUR LOAN IS FULLY FORGIVABLE

Another amazing thing I found in the archives - with the help of @otsapina.bsky.social - was the journal of a Civil War soldier who visited a plantation where Solomon Northup had been held captive. I wrote about it here.

NYT doesn’t get it. He’s terrorizing nonwhite people, seizing imperial power, perverting the government, and spewing hateful lies. This is pro-Trump gaslighting.

Yeah there’s a lot to unpack here and all of it is gross.
So far the only consistent through-line for “heritage Americans” that I’ve observed is that they seek a vision of the Nation where they, and no one else, gets to have an Asian wife.
