If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.

Colorado forced every county jail to open a polling place in November for incarcerated voters. This had never happened in the country.

Guess what resulted?

Jail turnout rose *500%* over 2020.

Many lessons here for the rest of the U.S.

Jail Voting Soars in Colorado After State Mandates Polling Places in County Lockups - Bolts
Local officials had claimed they were already giving detained people ballot access, but Colorado's first-in-the-nation mandate forced their hands and increased turnout across the state.

sometimes I slip and think the law isn’t for me and I don’t actually love the practice of law, but then I find a double jeopardy issue and jump up and down in excitement in my office.

if you have a thoughtful, principled opposition to vigilante violence in general, even in times of a decaying or altogether absent social contract, then more power to you. I think most actually don't have that. and some only have that in times of social stability.

All of these things can be true:
- Hunter Biden broke the law.
- Hunter Biden traded on his last name to make money.
- Hunter Biden’s actions were exploited and wildly exaggerated by unscrupulous Republicans in an effort to damage his father.

Pardoning Hunter Biden is a reasonable and practical choice. It’ll be a clear-eyed moral one too if the president exercises the pardon power more in the coming weeks to rectify unjust sentencing disparities.

It also makes sense that Roberts offered the opinion because he absolutely would have slammed Nixon for this nonsense in ‘74, but now he’s fine with retroactively legalizing Watergate and probably didn’t have a complicated thought about it.
it is funny that SCOTUS basically said Nixon was right in Trump vs United States

Starting to think the reason that all the arguments against a labor standards board are tedious, procedural (no public hearing!), or factually wrong is that there's no good argument against a labor standards board.

Matt Gaetz for attorney general is wild. It’ll be a disaster in multiple ways, but the odds of this administration being such a clown car it doesn’t get that many horrific things done does seem to increase with each cabinet pick.

While it’s true the Hennepin County Jail is understaffed and routinely creates dangerous situations for incarcerated folks, our leaders will use these reports to beat the racist punishment drum to use public funds to build a new jail in Hennepin County.
