This past weekend, I had the tremendous honor of hosting the 59th annual Nebula Awards. Everyone wanted to know, ahead of time, what I would wear. Here is the full fit breakdown, plus the full text of my opening remarks, which include a new toast for your dinner table.

Honestly I fucking love that the conclusion starts with very simple, basic statements of fact. “Gender identity is real”. More of this
BREAKING: Federal judge rules that Florida’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors and many of its restrictions on similar adult care are unconstitutional. More to come at Law Dork. www.lawdork.com

Truly amazing to see the Nebulas open with a tremendously comprehensive land acknowledgment, which I applaud, & hold in stark contrast to SFWA’s truly astonishing commitment to saying not one fucking thing about Palestine in 8 months, BUT ALSO GAILEY IS TOASTING & WEARING A KEFFIYEH WHAT A BABE

This is about Sarah Gailey’s SURPRISE new serialized novella!

And also is a whole just….oof.
The purpose of community is not to talk the same shit and like the same shows and hate the same tropes. Community, on the ground and in the world, is about showing up for each other, even when things are impossibly hard and the margins are impossibly narrow.

I worked my whole life to get to this day. My monster has escaped into the world. SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN is out now!

Shesheshen is a shapeshifting monster with a big problem: she's fallen for a human. This human is so kind and thoughtful, but also? This human is hunting her.

Darlings, I wish you a sky brilliantly full of stars. (My favorite.)

Quiet that gives peace, not questions.

A kind word, a soft touch. A heart that is lit up by hope and curiosity—a reminder that there is room for expansion.

May you yield yourself to something beautiful. May you receive in turn.

A new frame I’m working on: what I’ve been told is “””too much””” is, in fact, a glorious abundance.

Now I’m watching for where that shows up in my life.
Like, I get it. I can be a lot. I have a creative brain, I have a big output.

But I'm not going to keep back the things I'm passionate about, or stop doing things that I enjoy because they make someone else feel less accomplished.

That's a them problem, not a me problem.

I spent…a lot of years…making myself do more work after I was more efficient, and the end result was that I was negatively reinforcing my own efficiency: if the thing you get for efficiency is always more work, you’re punishing efficiency.

Dear friends, if you would be so kind as to consider "Cold Relations" published in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social for short story award nominations this year, as well as @writingexcuses.bsky.social for the fancast category, I would be so very grateful.

STARTER VILLAIN has come up on my TBR and I am LAUGHING, it’s excellent Scalzi.

“When people name cats, they usually do it in one of three categories: food, physical characteristics, or mythology.”

@maryrobinette.bsky.social does Elsie fit under characteristics because of Queen of the Hurricanes?

Plus, btw, although it's fun to do the horserace "what will the result be" thing and get all dressed up, it's also super stressful and maybe you could have the party without it? I know there are awards that do. The Otherwise, for instance, which I've been to and had fun.

Telling people in oppressive geographies to "just move" is not organizing and it is not activism, but it *is* the political philosophy of people who misunderstand the value of community, and who devalue the incredible, decades-long work of American resistance movements.
For everyone shitting on people in Alabama (where I live): the legislature/judges are mostly corrupt, evil, and backwards. The humans who live here are complicated, and mostly, this state is full of decent humans gerrymandered and voting rights act cancelled out of turning this state purple. STOP.

A thread of the shenanigans that I have gone through to get my ADHD meds this month:

My drs office called a week ago: my mail-order pharmacy told them that Vyvance was on backorder, with no idea when it’d be back in stock. I called a couple of local pharmacies, who all said the same thing.
