i love how fast anti-AI discourse is IMMEDIATELY becoming "if disabled people would suffer because of things done to stop AI usage then, well, haha, disabled people should definitely just suffer then :) sacrifices have to be made :)"

didn't predict this back in '22, nope

It's bizarre how much progressives have abandoned the regulatory state in favor of blanket bans.

A Russian person who lives in Australia is not responsible for what Putin does
If Russians are responsible for what happens in Russia
& Germans are responsible for what happens in Germany
(which I both hold to be true),

How aren't Jews responsible for what happens in Israel?

I think they are responsible, like Germans or Russians
a lot of people seem to think different
Why?

there is literally no engineering or science profession other than mechanical engineers which is even close to parity. tech workers literally donate to Democrats over Republicans by a factor of 17:1. and that 1 is almost entirely executives.

to be fair this is because Apple interprets EU demands like an evil genie
i am reminded of the fact that if you setup a new iphone in the eu, youre asked to select a default browser in a randomized list that can absolutely show a garbage spammy one at the top instead of just a list of safari and then third parties apple would curate like chrome or firefox as it should be

You are either incredibly thick or the single best troll I've encountered in the last 18 months. If it's the second one, my hat is genuinely off, I'm very impressed.

Me, to daughter: There’s only three confirmed members of Grogu’s species. Grogu, Yoda, and Yaddle.

My wife: Yaddle?

Me: Like Yoda but a girl one.

My wife: WHAT

Me, searching Google images: You’re going to think it’s not but this is real.

bsky is dunking on this, because of course we are, but like, no, these are *actually the questions we have to answer* if we want to transition the US to public healthcare, and we have to answer them *right*, and I think it's important to do so, because I want that to happen
How much are you going to pay doctors?

Which current hospitals get shut down ?

What happens if doctors opt out of the system ? Who is going to invest in new curative therapies. You ?

How much in taxes pr year do you think it's possible to collect if you took every penny from billionaires?
Half the amount that everyone currently pays could provide universal healthcare. Private health companies don’t need to exist. Eliminate them. And use your collective buying power and economies of scale to get it done. Every cent of their profit is healthcare denied.

It’s extremely disorienting to listen to a European talk about the Roma, and yes they sound exactly like Hitler.
One thing I've noticed in, say, /r/polandball was how the American posters were all like "yeah, our country's racist and that sucks" while the European posters were all like "<insert ziganophobic screed here>" without batting an eyelash

I’m currently playing Expedition 33 and it’s been magnificent so far. Absolutely living up to the hype. The combat is a hybrid of turn-based strategy and QTEs which I’ve found quite fun and strangely immersive, and the voice acting, script, and world building are several steps above FF games imo.

Been arguing this for months now. You don't have to like it, but if you think students will stop using it you're deluded.

Better off embracing it selectively and constructively and shaping its use.
Wrote a short piece arguing that higher ed must help steer AI. TLDR: If we outsource this to tech, we outsource our whole business. But rejectionism is basically stalling. If we want to survive, schools themselves must proactively shape AI for education & research. [1/6, unpaywalled at 5/6] +
Opinion | AI Is the Future. Higher Ed Should Shape It.
If we want to stay at the forefront of knowledge production, we must fit technology to our needs.
