Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

The maddest someone has ever gotten at me was when I talked about the child sized manacles Jefferson had at Monticello for 9 year old children. They could not cope with the idea that a child the same age as their child had been enslaved. And it made them angry that I made them know facts
Chattel slavery was so bad that when we tell you how bad it in fact was most of y'all shut down and tell us we're making it up and pass laws against us ever telling you how bad it was again because your brains literally cannot handle how bad it in fact was.
"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

We are trained to look for watershed events. That is how history books are written and taught, moments of decision and import that change everything after them. But history is compressed. It's cleaned up and constructed into a narrative so you can understand it. Years can become a single event.

Generative AI by definition is conformity. It is an averaging of anything you ask of it - quite literally guessing what the most likely version of a thing might be. It is, by definition, mainstream, as is everything it creates old and deeply ideological, as every model trains on similar data.
AI filmmaking is peeing. It’s pooping. It’s throwing up. It’s a new kind of liquid coming out. It’s hated by the establishment. It’s what goes in the toilet. It’s wet. It’s what’s in the bathroom.

One of the most unrealistic things in films for me is how you can go 30 years without seeing someone and still remember their names.

I can barely go a month....

Hi! I am moving some of my favorite memes about Japan that I’ve made over the years across the abyss to a pinned post over here, so that we all may have a happy, new life together. Depending on how well you know me, this 🧵 will either be my informal self-introduction, or a blast from the past.

Family restaurants are one of the greatest things about Japan and yet they’re barely known outside of it. I know friends who go to Japan very often but have no idea about サイゼリア or バーミヤン or ジョナサン.
This thread is total win 😂😂😂
Had a hamburg set and red wine plus coffee at Saizeriya Wednesday, having the same at Aux Bacchanales today.

Head to head comparison to follow.

On Twitter, Gunma Prefecture mascot Gunma-chan posted something that has been interpreted by many as either thinly veiled support for the far-right Sanseito or a poor attempt at a joke.

The tweet in question has since been deleted, with no official explanation given as of yet.
