Think I’m going to go for peak here.
I also very much enjoyed dispatch and the root trees are dead but peak is the one I played most and would recommend to people so I guess it has to be my goty
What was your favourite game at the end of 2025? I'm guessing your mind hasn't changed in the last ten days, but do say if it has

Then and now: Helldivers 2.

Lots of fun had with friends on that game. I still need to get into balatro, which might supplant helldivers if I ever do

So then: luck be a landlord

I think tomb raider is the only game on this list I’ve played so it wins by now by default. (I wasn’t born then)
Now we come to the furthest back I'll go, the year of my birth

No then vote - for half the year I hadn’t been born.

My now vote: Age of Empires (original) - not played in years but I have many many happy memories of that game as a kid.

I have a hunch that if you or I were running a website doing this the "urgent contact" would involve door rams and handcuffs so I struggle to see why it can't be slightly more pugnacious than this.
Ofcom, which enforces the UK's Online Safety Act, says it is aware of "serious concerns" about Grok undressing people including children on X

“We have made urgent contact with X and xAI to understand what steps they have taken to comply with their legal duties to protect users in the UK," it says

I thought the original Age of Empires was 98 but I only see the expansion. In that case I’ll go for:

Now - spyro

Shoutout to speedy Egbert as well, forgot that game existed. Played more than it deserved probably as a kid

Now: Deus Ex. Immaculate vibes, very fun game. Still holds up when I played it 2020.

Shoutout to The Sims and Spyro for also being good

But now: my only two way tie - LEGO racers and LEGO rock raiders, my absolute favourite childhood games. Both are still bangers.

It is a little known fact that they prerecord the Jools Holland Hootenanny - all the people on screen are faking it being New Year for tv.

For eg, last year’s was prerecorded June 15th, 1535, during the Siege of Munster, look carefully and you can see John of Leiden mingling with the audience.

Alright I’m now 5 years old for the “then” votes so it is hard to find one. I think it has to be drome racers (I played lots of older Lego games, but also this one probably in this year)

As for now? Pokemon Sapphire, my first Pokemon game and favourite GBA game as a kid.

Then: Spyro: adventures - called “attack of the rhynocs” in NA
First year I had a GBA, (so no Pokemon sapphire in 2002) I didn’t buy this game it was accidentally included when I bought crash team racing and spyro 2 dual cartridge.

Now: Zuma. Popcap’s timeless puzzle game, buy it on steam.

I think the answer is "they're not white".
Interested in how you square the circle of “British people who post ‘burn down a migrant hotel’ during race riots shouldn’t be arrested” with “someone who posted pretty objectionable and racist things 8 years before they became a British citizen should be deported” and am sure someone will ask Nigel

Then: Wii sports (only played Wii games of these and that’s the classic)

Now: Flatout 2

I’ve actually not played basically any 2006 games since, as I don’t use the Wii anymore. I played flat out 2 a lot as a teenager so it wins almost by default

In 2007 I am 10, so it’s Link’s crossbow training (I played it a lot)

Now I am 28 and it’s Mass Effect. I played it for the first time in 2019 and it is still one of my favourite games. I am still seething that they made ME2 a cover shooter and ruined renegade options.
