I don’t know how to tell some of you this, but China isn’t going “oh, the US now no longer has any moral authority to stop us invading Taiwan.” What has held China back is the fear the US will bring its military might to bear & cause all-out war, not comparative International Law morality arguments.

This will happen again - I’ll tell you why. It’s a long-standing fact that second-term Presidents facing increasingly difficult domestic climates pivot further to international issues. But whereas for others this may have meant *increased diplomatic efforts*, for Trump it means *do whatever I want*.
