not even mayor yet and he’s already potentially getting big wins like this. there was a whole class of centrist writers who, after zohran won, immediately said he would not be able to get anything done, and particularly pointed to raising taxes as one very out of reach for him
imagine that

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

if you voted in Seattle you gotta make sure your ballot counted now
There are 1,700 ballots that need signature confirmation. That is enough to change the election.

Go. Check. Your. Ballot.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

“Allegory of the Sin’dorei people in Outland” - by anonymous artist - charcoal, oil, and mana pigment on canvas. Unfinished royal portrait of Prince Kael’thas posing with an unknown woman and child, identified by art historians as representing the nurturing aspect of fel magic for the blood elves.

I think this is in some ways the most encouraging thing for me from last night

they really went national full court press to beat Mamdani and they got what they wanted - Republicans showed up, held their noses and voted for Cuomo, the anti-Mamdani coalition worked

they still lost by 9
while the story in Virginia and New Jersey was heavily one of relative turnout, with far more votes than usual coming from liberal areas, this was not the case in New York

Republicans showed up in pretty clearly greater numbers than Democrats, motivated to beat Mamdani

but they didn't

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

Think about how the left told Biden, and then Kamala, that their campaign would 100% lose if they did the exact opposite of what Mamdani's would be.

They literally plugged their ears and said shut the fuck up, and then she lost by doing the exact opposite, in every way on every issue, of Mamdani.
