The longevity of the Mafia in Italy serves as a warning that, once this style of rule embeds itself in the state, it is “very difficult to extract,” Adam Serwer argues. https://theatln.tc/cmuUQ5Rh

I'm going to restrict myself to one (two part) comment, which is:

1) the entire range runs from execs making 290x what their workers make to execs making 350x what their workers make, and

2) this should frame everything else such execs encourage you to be mad about
C.E.O. pay increased last year, and the disparity with what employees are paid is the highest since companies began reporting this measure.

Follow this thread to learn how this image was created a few days ago by a proud white supremacist and antisemite who is now crowing about its use by the US government.
This is a real thing being posted and circulated by the Department of Homeland Security, referring to undocumented immigrants as “foreign invaders” and urging good Americans to turn them in.

(I’ll leave it to BlueSky historians to find comparisons to WWII era materials.)

Imo, a reason why most people own little wealth in Nordic countries. Fundamentally, wealth is not needed to lead a good life or give your children a future
This is one reason I am always skeptical of proposals for reducing wealth inequality by broadening asset ownership. From my point of view, a better goal is reducing the scope of life that is organized through wealth. jwmason.org/slackwire/th...

First point to note-- the headline automatically signals that the NYT agrees with Trump's assertion that these White South Africans are facing life-threatening persecution.

2) The story does not give readers context about the international definition of refugee.

While you highlight it, please note is the product of local journalism, which has been carrying a lot of the burden in an environment where national outlets simply can't cover everything everywhere all at once. Support your local journalists!
Please highlight this story.

ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago.

The South is Rising again.
NEW: Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has declared April 2025 as Confederate Heritage Month.

He did so at the behest of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a neo-Confederate organization that espouses “Lost Cause” ideology, which whitewashes the role of slavery in the Civil War. 🧵

What do these corporations have in common?

Netflix
Ford
Tesla
T-Mobile
Duke Energy
DISH Network
Metlife
Dominion Energy
United States Steel

In recent years, they all paid their execs more than they paid in taxes.

This is what a corporate-rigged system looks like.
