Our politics seems to be entering a phase of "right supremacy" where only the lives of right-wingers have value. Assassinating the leader of a state legislative body in her own damn home was business as usual, but all of America has to have a reckoning if it's a far-right online influencer.

Shaheen (NH)

They've effectively just voted for Donald Trump's agenda without putting up a fight. Never let them hear the end of it.

Ffs, we're in desperate need of an opposition party. I called my senators. You can too; it's less painful than you imagine. Likely just leaving a voicemail. If you're in New York, please add your voice. No on cloture, no on the House CR. And uh, no to this Dem "leadership".

I am fully vaccinated and my MMR titer came back negative last year, meaning my immunity was gone sooner than expected. I needed to get re-vaccinated. Now is a great time to get checked at your doctor's office or any lab test facility: LabCorp, quest, etc.
Little known, recently discovered fact:

Measles wipes out immune protections OTHER diseases: many who recover actually face big future risk.

Earlier measles may be implicated in HALF OF ALL LATER CHILDHOOD DEATHS from ALL infectious diseases before vaccines.

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

This past year United Healthcare initially denied the planned, entirely routine, in network, and plainly covered birth of my son because it was "expensive" and "maybe we would pay some". (Literally what I was told when I called.) We found out months later with a $40k hospital bill in the mail.

Oof. NYT continues to crank it out. By working class the author must mean "white" in which case the answer is racism with a tinge of ignorance fostered by a toxic media ecosystem. In other news, I subscribed to my local newspaper.

This. I'd bike commute on it year round, and people including local govt officials treat it like a weird niche hobby when I'm just trying to get to work safely. I have multiple friends with chronic back or leg or foot injuries from being rear ended on 95. Turns out winter driving is dangerous.
Heard of the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, extolled as a crown jewel of the rails-to-trails movement? It passes through towns that take no responsibility for clearing it in winter.

The “Friends of the Bikeway” have installed trailside signs pleading for donations for this purpose.
The “license cyclists” discourse has resumed.

We are so vastly far away from a basic level of safe bicycling infrastructure anywhere in the USA that any discussion of the dangers posed to motorists by “reckless cyclists” is no better than auto industry propaganda 🤷🏻‍♂️
