actually, it *is* "technically pedophilia."

technically, in a casual and colloquial conversation, the commonly understood informal catch-all term used for someone who rapes *any* minors is "pedophile."

When I was working with DV victims in crisis situations where I had to get them and their kids to a safe place or else I had to take their kids to foster care, the most effective question I asked was, "Would he keep doing that if the cops were watching?"

They are never out of control
All of this.

Disrupt the “violence comes from emotions running too high” narrative whenever you can.

Patriarchal violence doesn’t come from someone losing control. It comes from someone using a very specific set of tactics to seek more control than they already have.
This is it right here. Law enforcement personnel who move 0 to 60 with their aggression when "executing detention orders" are doing so from learned behavior - it is not instinctual to smash a car window, cut someone's seat belt, drag them out of their car and throw them to the ground. It's taught.

the correct response to "turns out they were right about that thing all along" isn't "whew! good thing I understand now."

the correct response is is "wait, what else were they right about?"

Why don’t they just name names?

Why didn’t she go to the police?

Where were her parents?

Why was she alone with him?

This is what sexual assault survivors have to go through.

No one asks why the man chose to rape or why rapists aren’t punished.

The victims are blamed.

The right wing numpties are crying "this is Censorship!" over Grok.

Our reply should be: "Yes. Exactly. It's Censorship. Of Child Sexual Material. Censorship of CSM is a very good thing."

The media needs to take these free speech absolutists to task on the material limits of their beliefs.

It's uncomfortable to unpack your privilege, but it's more uncomfortable to be oppressed. Most white people can't manage the relatively minor discomfort of coming to terms with whiteness in order to ease the burden on the oppressed. It's pretty pathetic.

It’s never about the little things in isolation, that could have just been done differently to prevent a tantrum. It’s about the abuser’s reaction to the little things, making any casual, mundane, ordinary thing a potential unpredictable risk, and a pattern of that over time.

A reminder for my fellow asexual and aromantic peeps.

You don't owe anyone sex, or sexelessness, or an explanation. You just have to be. Don't let anyone take that from you.

A lot of them also seem to feel that they are owed forgiveness and acceptance because of that personal belief that they've repented.

That level of entitlement is a red flag that indicates they haven't really changed that much at all, because they can't even acknowlege the harm that they've done.

Distraction is absolutely a legit coping tool in realistic trauma recovery. Don't think you have to meet everything head on, full speed, at all times-- it's just real important we don't substitute constant, desperate distraction for acknowledging & processing feelings & memories.

I dunno, fellas. Seems to me like it might be time to stop calling traumatized people “dramatic” and recognize that this is an era for heroism, because wisdom doesn’t have to be delivered calmly in order to be wise

Just how morally, ethically, intellectually bankrupt do you have to be to argue that 15-year-olds can sell sex but can’t affirm gender

Stopping on briefly, there is no take on the social construct of race more inherently White than insisting "we're all one race" or suggesting race is something we can think away. Until the day comes when you can make my race irrelevant to the world, *I* have to care about the consequences of race.

It has always been so obvious that the backlash to MeToo isn’t about whether the abuse is happening but whether people are allowed to want it to stop

there's a common dynamic where victims are framed as vicious, vindictive people who only seek to ruin lives while people think abusers are just little guys who don't know they're abusing.

abusers and privileged people think consequences are unfair.

thats why they work to avoid them

like when they start writing "has #metoo gone too far" two days after it went viral and barely anything happened to 99.9999% of abusers

White autistic people are marginalized by ableism, but sometimes this leads to a mindset of “I’m already oppressed so I can’t be part of the problem.”
This can make it harder to see how whiteness still confers advantages, even within a disabled community

This is SUCH an important thread for white people (men especially) to read and learn to let go of your defensiveness around white privilege because you are not just harming others you are harming yourself with it!!!
One of the most liberating truths I’ve learned, and the one that white folx, particularly white men, still struggle to face, is this:

The myth of white supremacy explains your behavior.
It does not, and has never, determined my value.
