Rep. Mike Lawler just introduced a resolution to make Sept 19 Black Autism Acceptance & Awareness Day inspired by my advocacy. This day is deeply needed. Getting it passed will be a major step forward in autism advocacy. 🖤 here is my interview with News12
Smiles can hide storms ⛈️. ‘Resilient’ can hide exhaustion 😞Black women are taught to endure, but we are allowed to break,😭
to cry, 😢
to seek help 👌🏽.
Strength isn’t silence
it’s surviving while embracing every part of our humanity!

As someone who has been open about my struggles with suicide ideation, I want more black women to have these honest talks. Because it's ok to not be strong. Too have a breaking point. And to need to be cared for, instead of caring for everyone else.

I spoke candidly about my suicide attempts which were the result of trauma & also not knowing why I was different once I learned about being autistic & that there was a word for what I was my life changed 🫶🏽

I spoke about people on social media saying so many black autistic women being diagnosed as autistic isn’t normal I made a point to say not loving yourself not knowing what you are different not wanting to wake up are the things that aren’t normal Black women deserve to know why we are different too

Autistic people of color, LGBTQ+ autistics, and poor autistics face compounded barriers. If your advocacy doesn’t include them, it’s not inclusive 👍🏽

100% agree with this
Autism research has long centered white, male subjects. That bias shapes how “typical” autism is defined leaving Black autistic people misdiagnosed, overlooked, or punished instead of supported

I’ve had thee most disrespectful headache the past few days & yesterday was such a busy day 😩

Intersectional autism research means listening to Black autistic voices, hiring diverse researchers, and rethinking what “normal” looks like. Inclusion isn’t a checkbox it’s transformation
November 6, 2025 at 6:55 PM
Black parents often have to fight for their child’s autism diagnosis because systems weren’t built with them in mind. Research that centers whiteness reinforces that struggle
November 6, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Without intersectional research, clinicians miss how racism and ableism overlap. Black autistic kids often face harsher school discipline and police encounters that white peers rarely experience, Black autistic kids are more likely to be murdered by police that’s a fact
November 6, 2025 at 6:52 PM
When race isn’t considered in autism studies, Black autistic traits get read as “behavior problems” or “defiance.” The result? Fewer diagnoses, more discipline, and lost chances for care remind me how that’s fair
