Institutionalizing people doesn’t make them “better”.

It doesn’t help them and it’s not compassionate.

It simply disappears them. Hides them away so the general public don’t have to face disability and mental illness.

People think it’s better because they don’t have to see it.

Executive dysfunction ≠ laziness

Autistic people can swing between “Can’t stop till I’m done” and “Can’t start no matter how much I want (or need) to”

It can be SO hard for others to understand, especially when most take executive function for granted

But executive dysfunction is a disability

People act like chronic illness is a vacation, where you get to stay in bed & have your needs met by others

The truth is it’s a constant battle. Against your body, against ableism, against poverty & against a medical system that doesn’t know how to help you

There’s no break. It’s a 24/7 job

There’s no reason to have a Democratic Party if it won’t go to the mat to save the Department of Education. It’s a fundamental belief that children in America deserve better futures. It’s tremendously simple. You cannot continue funding a government that would close this.

We need Pete Buttigieg as a clear messenger, more than ever.

And don’t forget the silent A at the end that everyone ignores:

Accessibility, because a person’s disability should never preclude them from engaging in a society.
Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out.

Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation.

Say equity, which a just society should pursue.

Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

There will be an economic blackout Feb 28 nationwide. This means don't buy ANYTHING unless it's from a small business. Do not use Target, Walmart, or Amazon. Get the word out! We want THEM to see that WE have the power. We will start with 1 day, then 3, then specific companies.

Anecdotally, the Dems’ attempt to enter Treasury on Tues broke through to the public in a big way.

At least according to..the Mom-o-meter.

My Mom before Tues: You’re doing what? Where? This can’t be a national emergency.

Mom on Tuesday: WHO ARE THESE KIDS AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH MY MONEY?

If you’re disabled, today has been hard

When I saw Trump throw our community under the bus with respect to the American Airlines crash, I felt rage & adrenaline.

Now it’s pain and a crash.

Be gentle with yourselves. Check on the disabled people in your life.

This feels like just the beginning
