Now we have to elect an Italian POTUS or else we’ll have a trade imbalance with the Vatican.

I mean…. Obviously, right?
One of my founders today told me that her sales funnel -- six figure ARR deals from major manufacturing companies -- has frozen in place over the last two months. She can no longer forecast when any of the deals will close.

lol we didn’t fail to see any of it what are you talking about
Fascism is now in the algorithms, the neural pathways, the social interactions. How did we fail to see all this? “We wanted to see Trump in terms of his absences, so that our way of seeing the world would go unchallenged,” Timothy Snyder writes.
What Does It Mean That Donald Trump Is a Fascist?
Trump takes the tools of dictators and adapts them for the Internet. We should expect him to try to cling to power until death, and create a cult of January 6th martyrs.

I think today might have been the largest S&P 500 intraday reversal in at least 40 years.

Since 1983 (when my intraday price data begins), there has never been a session where the market was up over 4% before 11:00a before a loss of more than 5% off that high.

A truly historic collapse.

The skeleton key to understanding reactionary conservatism is quite simple: they are scared, all the time, of everything.

AMERICA WASN'T PUNCHED. WE ARE MIKE TYSON AND EVERYONE ELSE IS GLASS JOE. PLEASE MAKE IT STOP.
Leavitt: "When America is punched, he punches back harder. That's why there will be 104% tariffs going into effect on China tonight at midnight. But the president believes that Xi and China want to make deal, they just don't know how to get that started."

It's so bonkers to see the richest economy in human history saying that they're the victim of a system they built, the system that made them the richest.

So many hundreds of thousands of words of ink, so many countless hours wasted, explaining how this man was secretly savvy, and it turns out he’s just dumb as a rock, clueless about basic economics, and driven by a malicious paranoia that conniving foreigners are ripping us off
Trump: "I spoke to a lot of leaders -- European, Asian, from all over the world. They are dying to make a deal, but I said 'we're not gonna have deficits with your country' ... to me a deficit is a loss. We're gonna have surpluses or at worst we're gonna be breaking even."

Makes little sense to crash the economy and the stock market to create mfr jobs. The stock market "always comes back" because companies reduce jobs and investments to boost profits. There's a 54% correlation between lower earnings and higher unemployment 3 qtrs later. Mfr. jobs often suffer heavily.

Will have to increase the tariffs in order to compensate the farmers
“.. Farmers won’t just be losing market share,” Dr. Sheldon added. “Their revenue will fall because commodity prices will fall, and farmers are already facing a margin squeeze ..”

The only reason he is now talking about short-run pain is because his policies delivered the opposite outcome than what he expected. He had predicted a boom in the stock market after his election. He is making things up as he goes along. Not sure this counts as "reasonably transparent".
The tragedy and puzzle- of Donald Trump is that he is doing something too few Presidents would have the courage to do: incur large, widespread short-run pain--while being reasonably transparent about it--in the service of long-run gain.

(The tragedy is he is mistaken on the LR.)

Wild to watch.

Obviously Ackman sucks but he’s far from the only one pushing this “just make a deal” stance, which is total garbage.

The tariffs are based on nothing.

There is no deal to be made; this is not a game theory situation it’s just a guy who doesn’t understand how stuff works.

Lutnick spends substantial time in the Oval Office, hyping the president on his tariff strategy and “giving him bad advice — pushing more aggressive tariffs,” the person said.
“.. Trump’s orbit is ready to play the blame game should things go poorly for the White House. And all the fingers will be pointing at Lutnick, two people close to the administration, granted anonymity to discuss the private dynamics, told POLITICO.”
