Something is fundamentally wrong with America when millions of dollars can’t buy you a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat, the respect of your children, the silence of your baby mammas, or a functional penis implant.

this isn't 'oh no capitalism is forcing people to get into debt for food', folks. doordash is an extremely expensive and ineffective way of getting food!
DoorDash and Klarna have signed a deal where customers can choose to pay for food deliveries in interest-free installments or deferred options aligned with payday schedules.

I think something older D electeds don’t get is that a growing number of libs see Israel as hostile not in an “activist SJW etc.” sense but a “this country’s government is openly aligned with the fascists taking over my country and is therefore actively opposed to my interests and wellbeing” way.
one insane thing about schumer's statements about khalil is that trump has been perfectly clear that he has not suspected of a crime. schumer nonetheless provided trump with an opportunity to confabulate a crime both trump and rubio have denied occurred. just lying to defend the president.

This story about the Columbia urban planning student whose visa was revoked is worth reading in its entirety. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/15/n...

Just one thing that stood out is Columbia’s swift action and rapid eviction:

i think shutting the government down is preferably to nullifying article i of the constitution
The weeks of performative “resistance” from those in my party were limited to undignified antics.

Voting to shut the government down will punish millions or risk a recession.

I disagree with many points in the CR, but I will never vote to shut our government down.

Gotta be honest, I have no idea what opinions Khalil holds, and I'm guessing I'd probably disagree with a bunch, but it's not even worth me finding out, *because that doesn't matter* and there's no reason to even bring it up, because he was renditioned because of his speech. Full stop.

Just say it.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer finally releases a statement on Mahmoud Khalil.

The detention of Mahmoud Khalil puts all Americans fundamental rights at risk. And if you can’t see that because you oppose his politics, well that’s exactly the reaction Trump and his cronies are counting on. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Mahmoud Khalil’s Detention Is a Trial Run
The pro-Palestine student was arrested without due process for exercising his right to free speech. He will not be the last.

I'm usually the first to say that presidents receive way too much credit and blame for economic conditions that they have little power to control or influence in the short-term.

Not this time. This is 100% self-inflicted by the president and totally unnecessary.

Wild seeing Trump cabinet officials and allied-lawmakers trying to tell voters that:
-Recessions actually aren't all bad,
-Collapsing stocks are a buying opportunity,
-Price hikes are part of making American great, and
-High egg prices mean we should all raise chickens.

This is why it’s annoying when someone decides to butt in and say “America always has and will sucked maximally.”

Look, this place was never close to perfect but it used to be a country where it was uncontroversial to say we shouldn’t bomb Denmark and I think getting back is a reasonable goal.

Trans sports is like an 80/20 issue because the public is stupid, so I wouldn’t advise any candidate to make it their main issue , but the correct response to attempts to bring it up is “this is like 15 people, why is treated like a national issue”, not “you have a point”.

the more democrats concede to the republican war on trans people, the more that signals to the public that trans people are a problem and should be stigmatized.

This is a pretty deep point, and why there's unfortunately a segment of the Democratic base that finds some of Trump's worst and dumbest ideas appealing. There's this fantasy that the protectionist trade policy is going to magically resurrect a whole category of 1950s-80s macho blue collar jobs.
Why? Why consider that? What invented past are we fetishizing?
But if the price of goods is rising to facilitate the reinvigoration of American production and a transition to an economy that prioritizes domestic goods and markets, that’s a tradeoff we should consider.

Chickenpox parties in the pre-vaccine era made some sense. The infection could be much worse if you got it as an adult, and it was seemingly inevitable so best to get it out of the way.

But now we have vaccines, & measles has always been more deadly than chickenpox. "Parties" are Russian roulette.
