“The murdering will continue until you stop calling us murderers.”
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

If the US system remains trapped in an endless knife fight between a party of good government and a party of nihilistic governance then Europeans need to accept that the US will no longer be a stable partner long after Trump is gone
I'd just like to point out that we spent an entire shipment of air defense interceptors' worth of money on new signs for a name change that isn't even legally the name of the DoD.

Ukraine is currently experiencing rolling blackouts from Russian strikes, btw.
Letterheads and signage alone would quickly run the bill upward of $1 billion, with a full overhaul likely rising to double that amount.

/2 Anyway it’s great to see Heritage recognize and support the philosophical core of “free speech culture”: judging Jews as inherently suspect or harmful to America is just another opinion, but judging someone for saying that is unacceptable in a free society.

Also: when a government acts brutally and lawlessly and immorally, but tells you that pointing those things out incites violence and terrorism, that government and its agents are entitled to no respect or credence.

The circumstances of Mr. Escobar's arrest are even worse than the brief summary above. He repeatedly tried to tell the immigration officials that he had papers while they were arresting him.

In response, a federal agent said "No you don't. You are illegal," and "Shut up, bitch! You're illegal."

It's not just the authoritarianism — it's how shameless, how *gleeful* this administration is about it

“Looks like” and “borderline” doing a lot of work for Politico. How is it not state censorship when the FCC chair threatens a media company with consequences if they don’t pull a show because it offended the administration? How is this not ABC caving to these illegal (and anti-American) threats?

To paraphrase: the most extreme right wing agitators have shifted the Overton window of what is acceptable to say in public, so we should must accept that.
"Much of what I would describe as Kirk's worst moments were now just standard fair MAGA Republicanism. And the leader of MAGA Republicanism is the President of the United States...we are going to have to live here with each other believing what we believe. Disagreeing in the ways we disagree."

if you are going to turn all of federal law enforcement into an occupation force that hassles people for living their lives, then you are basically going to ensure that no one with information about the specific people committing acts of violence is ever going to come forward

There is no universe in which this ends well.
This could end up very badly given what we know of Rules on Use of Force (RUF) for Guard in DC. And very different training regimens compared to local police.

Wall Street Journal reporting:

"National Guard troops deployed to Washington, D.C. are preparing to carry weapons in the coming days."
Exclusive | National Guard Soldiers Prepare to Carry Weapons in Washington, D.C.
The shift comes after defense officials said the soldiers deployed to the capital wouldn’t be armed.

🔴 The red circle is the Home Depot parking lot on Rhode Island Ave. I've shopped there many times. It's not so much a hotspot for crime, as a gathering place for day laborers seeking work.

This isn't about crime. It's about removing people that Stephen Miller deems "undesirables" from the city 🤨

This is truly unhinged. Putting aside the contrast between pardoning every single J6ers and sending a platoon to rearrest a guy who threw a sandwich, do they think this makes them look cool? It couldn’t look more insecure if it was trying.
The White House posted an insane video of the police arresting the sandwich guy in a safe and wealthy neighborhood.
