@rexparker.bsky.social theory is that the better rebus puzzles are still enjoyable once you get the gimmick, either through interesting or weird answers or clueing. Otherwise they can just feel like a slog.

I thought this one was ok because it took me a bit to figure out how the gimmick worked.

I mean, the greek letter phi was in the background of the puzzle. And multiple of the answers were pretty obvious, but didn’t fit in the space, which is a big hint “something fishy” is going on.

Counterpoint: No. We shouldn’t. We should strive to return to a day when those who spread facism, promote racism, sexism and bigotry, and support political violence are mocked out of the public sphere. Not because the government prohibits that behavior, but because we as a society won’t accept it.
