Chotiner: So how many of your relationships involved contractual agreements?

Lizza: Well, marriage is a contract.

Chotiner: These were not all marriages though.

Lizza: No.

Chotiner: Okay.

I’ve worked with a lot of great journalists who do serious investigative public service work. I’ve never worked with glorified gossip columnists (and I don’t mean this to demean actual committed to the bit gossip columnists).

In the past the press would badger a president until they extracted the response they believed appropriate. Typically an admission of sorts or contrition over some thing the press is fixated on. Epstein stuff as of late is the first time I've seen the press really do this with Trump.

It's so hard for someone to challenge an incumbent, let alone someone in leadership. Absolutely worth following when it happens, especially this cycle. (It should be routine. Primaries are good for democracy!)

The we’re-a-leaderless-movement to we-are-run-by-cranks pipeline is well outlined in Astra Taylor’s phrase “ad hocracy” meaning an organization run by people who have enough free time and idiosyncratic drive.

You don’t have to professionalize politics but you need to pay people and take turns.

When my opponents are throwing gas and lit matches at each other in their tent I never think to myself hell yeah let’s have one of them over.
Raskin: We are a big tent. We must be a huge, vast tent. I say this is a party that’s got room for Marjorie Taylor Greene if she wants to come over.

“Short bursts indicate an ICE sighting. Long whistles indicate agents making arrests. If you hear the whistle and you’re undocumented, said [Whitney Hu, a community activist and organizer with South Brooklyn Mutual Aid], ‘you hide. And if you’re somebody who’s not, you go to the street.’”
As ICE Street Raids Ramp Up, New Yorkers Stock Up On Whistles
Taking a cue from Chicago, community groups have distributed thousands of whistles in recent weeks — a grassroots system people in other cities have adopted to help neighbors sound the alarm.

An unstated issue here is that donors read the NYT so Klein’s advice is privileged above 99% of operatives who actually work for elected officials and political organizations.

Presumably you only get shown a conduct card if you act out at a game? Otherwise do they turn into collector’s items?
Draymond Green has a nice conversation with a baseline fan about running his mouth and a nice conversation with the referee about that conversation. Fan gets a chat with security for the dreaded conduct card

Part of a longer thread. IMO this is the biggest conceptual gap between writers and political communication operatives
Not even dumbed down. Words have actual meaning. They say what they do whether it's the intent or not.

This is right but a lot of us beat our heads against this wall for years because the sticking point is getting elected officials to do anti-corruption work so they can provoke attention toward it beyond messaging.
I don’t understand why Dems have to choose? “Trump is a corrupt billionaire pedo whose self-serving policies have made your life more expensive” is not that hard of a message imo
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

2A is not a fundamentally individual right, it is a *community* right and I’d love to see some of these folks open ranges and do community-oriented trainings, not just around firearms, but first aid, police interactions, and resistance to authoritarianism.

More liberals, people of color and LGBTQ Americans say they're buying guns out of fear
The image of gun ownership in America has been white, rural and Republican, but that's been changing as more liberals and minorities have been buying guns, especially after the 2024 election.
