They disagree but the criticism is either muted or they express sympathy and understanding for the yes votes. That’s a core problem, imo. There are no consequences for the yes votes so the opposition seems particularly performative

Murphy, Blumenthal reject shutdown deal over health care
CT's senators opposed the deal because it doesn't extend the policy at the heart of the shutdown fight: expiring health care subsidies.

@proptermalone.bsky.social called him a sin eater who had become bloated with sin the last time they did this; I think that's why he and Schatz took the no votes this time while other members chowed down at the sin buffet

the airport has a bike assembly area; went to a soccer game there and hundreds of fans were locking up at a sea of bike racks; I told my buddies I needed a minute it was so beautiful

They don't even interview the people they're criticizing -- it's like anti-journalism.

At some point elected Dems are supposed to work in tandem with movements instead of movement orgs and activists having to constantly pressure them to do basic political reforms that advance their own partisan goals. At least Prop 50 passed.

It hasn't -- Democrats didn't have internal agreement to break the filibuster for the John Lewis voting rights act in 2022. Manchin and Sinema blocked it, but it's not clear if other Dem senators were hiding behind them. There was a ton of movement pressure already.

It would be up to Republicans to do it at this stage. It’s almost dead at this point anyway. And Democrats don’t have a strategy to nuke it if they win a majority

Whoever kills the filibuster first gets to actually do their governing agenda. I don’t think they can rig elections by federal law — it’s still state level and would actually trigger mass protests and strikes

Often recall historian Bob Proctor's "agnotology" meaning the cultural production of ignorance. He coined the term when writing about big tobacco, but the same applies to news outlets that flood the zone with reactionary centrists misrepresenting what other people believe.

At a literal level, their stance relies on actual ignorance of progressive political positions because they have to keep pretending everyone to the left of Angus King is engaged in magical thinking.

all crosswalks sing for those who are brave enough to hear

Some of the less progressive members will even use that as a talking point -- hey not even the left's favorite senators are on board! -- yeah, man, it's that bad! You all are doing process bs while the constitution is getting shredded.

lot of bangers in there but "ice-water mansion" is a perfect little bit of poetic license

By any definition I think high-info voters, donors, and volunteers are a base, including people who discuss politics online.
