If there’s a better obituary for an evil cartoonist than an A.I. generated version of his character that fucks up the defining detail of its design, I can’t think of it. No notes. 👨🏻‍🍳 💋

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Trump's explosion of rage last night over ABC's reinstatement of Jimmy Kimmel shouldn't be greeted with fear and weepy hand-wringing. It should be seen as a sign that his authoritarian designs are running into very deep resistance and that he's weak and losing on many fronts.
Trump/MAGA are trying to gaslight us into believing that anti-Jimmy Kimmel America is vast and deep, that MAGA's grip on the culture is unshakable, that mobilization is futile.

But this episode has demonstrated the opposite. Let's not forget it.

Thoughts on this:

There is no route out of fascism that involves sacrificing the vulnerable. All that does is tell the fascists that we're willing to turn on each other for the illusion of safety.
A lot of political influencers within the Atlantic/NYT orbit are very, very eager to sell us on the lie that we can get out of fascism by sacrificing trans people.

They will beat that drum even louder as the right weaponizes this tragedy.

They are liars now & they will be liars in the coming days.

I literally warned against exactly this in my dissertation and i am very tired of eugenicist fascist authoritarians using all the things we've warned about as a fucking shopping list
"[W]earables are key to the MAHA agenda...every American [using one[ within 4 years."

So the MAHA/MAGA vision is total surveillance down to your personal biorhythms, and if you deviate you're not "healthy".

Eugenics and tech going hand in hand w/ total survellance. Will Palantir hold that data?

16 years ago today, the federal minimum wage was raised to $7.25 per hour — and it hasn’t changed since.

That’s because the system is rigged against working people and for billionaires like Donald Trump.

Americans deserve better. It’s time to raise the wage.

as correct as michael is here this is the inverse of how it works in the world of elite commentary, where a willingness to entertain race science somehow makes you more credible for your "heterodoxy" (see: charles murray)
imo, if someone believes some races or ethnicities are genetically inferior to others, that person has revealed a weakness of mind and character that casts extreme if not irrefutable doubt on their other ideas. why would i expect them to use more rigor on, eg, housing than they do on human nature?

PBS streaming service!

did not know this was a thing!

can send our canceled paramount+ dollars this way for a double win (and it’s cheaper)
I can confirm the PBS Passport is a very good deal for $5/month or $2.50/month if you do yearly.

Thousands of hours of top notch content. NOVA is great. The new Ken Burns doc on Leonardo da Vinci is excellent.

I wondered: “What kind of a person thinks you can be too nice to a 4-year-old? Who are these people?” Now I know

My favorite part is that there's adult men, in America, that do iPhone repair, and they often do repair tasks much more intricate than what assembly requires.

Like nobody even thought about this for a second.
