“One of the attorneys said part of the operational plan involves undercover ICE and FBI agents attending and documenting church security plans.”
"Agencies within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, ERO, and CBP intend to implement a comprehensive plan to target Spanish-speaking churches across the country during the upcoming holiday season between Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, and Christmas, Dec. 25."

I've never been a member of AMS (I'm barely even a member of SMT) so I can't personally sign this, but I have to assume at least a couple current/former AMS members follow me so if that's you, you should probably be aware of this petition.
I urge all of you, friends & colleagues, to please consider signing this petition to restore transparent governance and accountability in the AMS -- with this action, we can make our voices heard & remind everyone of our mission as a member-led society docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Can't believe everyone's posting about Pluribus in an attempt to trick me into believing that Apple TV is real. I'm not falling for that.

Bach, you have to stop. Your clavier is too well-tempered. Your concertos too Brandenburg. They’ll kill you

This is now my second-favorite explanation of music theory after, of course, Jacob Gran's "composer fan fiction".
Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

It feels like a lazy answer because it's so obvious, but I don't think any book has had as profound an impact on me as Terry Pratchett's Small Gods. It fundamentally changed my understanding of the nature and purpose of faith, and, far more importantly, the nature and purpose of stories.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Ok, I need to confess something: I have, for many years, known the Rage Against The Machine song Bulls On Parade, and I've known that it was called that. But somehow, I also thought they had a song called Pocketful of Shells, which I also knew, and I never noticed that they sounded exactly the same.

Anyone got a summary of what's happening with AMS? I'm one too many steps removed to have any direct context but all my mutuals are going wild.

If you're rendering an hour and a half of 4k footage, probably don't do high-score Balatro runs at the same time on the same computer. They tend to interfere.

I'm not surprised this exists but I am a little surprised how hard it whips.
I knew it would take less than a day for a tiktok dj to make something.

This is my experience as well. I use they/them pronouns but unless we know each other reasonable well I'm almost certainly not interested in having a conversation about what that means for me. I'd prefer if you just said "he" so we can move on to more interesting topics.
for instance for someone like me being REQUIRED to share pronouns for some event or something, you are basically saying ‘okay you need to out yourself or we have some big conversation about technicalities of your gender very publically.’ i would rather you just assume wrong. much easier for me

One thing about LA on Halloween is that it's pretty easy to get to the rich neighborhoods so no one really trick-or-treats near me, but we always prepare just in case. This year we decided to be a full-bar house 'cause why not, so now I've got all this candy that I guess I'll have to eat myself.

He was a leg of stone,
She said he'd stand all alone,
His visage shattered in the sand,

His works evoke despair,
Sadly she didn't care,
'Cause she was from an antique land
Your chilly sneer
Of cold command
Your trunkless legs
Upon the sand
Once awed the Persian, Turk,
And Damascene

A pedastal
Beside your smirk
Proclaims “Look up,
You lazy jerk!
Behold the mighty work
Of great
Jolene.”
i never saw two trunkless legs
i never hope to see 'em
but i can tell you, anyhow,
i'd rather see than be 'em

As a youtuber I have no idea what Isaac is talking about.
The thing about capitalism is that every real thing of value gets encircled by a layer of grift and this is regarded as a necessary evil but then people forget how to tell the difference between the grift and the real thing and the grift eats the real thing until there's nothing left

Not a day goes by where I don't find myself wondering whether youtube is still a space I want to inhabit, but videos are still a thing I want to make and I don't have anywhere else to do it.
Thinking about how more and more, as an artist, you have to choose between participating in an ecosystem that is increasingly toxic and hostile to artists, or consciously sequester yourself in a way that protects your mental health but limits your reach
