the sort of liminal space american politics exists in rn — a fed govt that *wants to be* fascist and *is* doing a ton of violence/damage but is also very clearly outnumbered and losing battles left and right in elections, courts, the streets — is i think hard for a lot of us to get our heads around
ICE can't even deal with irate middle-aged midwesterners. how does he occupy hundreds, if not thousands, of polling cites and precincts? trump v. illinois clarified that he has no legal authority to unilaterally commandeer national guards, how does he move forward from there?

With the threat of the Insurrection Act looming, I just want to note that it was never going to matter how peaceful and correct the protestors here are. All the "don't give him pretext" concern trolling misses the point: He will intentionally manufacture chaos and was always going to make an excuse.

I think it needs to be said that even *if* he had a popular mandate, that doesn't make domestic terrorism against minorities okay. Slavery was popular. That didn't make it okay
The complete failure of Democrats to resist the Trump administration in the first few months was written off as them buying into the fact that he had some kind of "mandate" from his popular vote victory. But now they know he's unpopular, and they still refuse to resist.
