I just heard an anecdote that there was a run of people checking out of rehabs and detoxes early today because their government benefits accounts indicated "balance pending" after the Senate vote.

He is a computer safety researcher.
And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

Tariffs Are Hurting the People They’re Meant to Help
The recent trade truce struck between the US and China is welcome news, but it will hardly erase the damage tariffs are still inflicting on American consumers and workers, including two groups who have strongly backed the president: farmers and factory workers.

Something to save my sanity is when I log in to this place I look at what is trending. Instantly this morning I see there is going to be a lot of rage based on that. I read headlines, I get the gist of what is going on, while protecting my inner peace. It's going to be ugly on social media for a bit

With SNAP in crisis, America’s epic food waste problem has become a lifeline.

It's been a long time with responsibilities since I've been able to sneak away across the street into the rain forest. I'll be taking "me time" more often again without the 24/7 exhausting care of my elderly mom. Walkabouts are great for healing the mind/body/soul.

I've offered to donate quite a lot to various organizations while I'm grieving the loss of my mom. Some of it very valuable to those organizations yet the people want me to jump through hoops so they can obtain those belongings. If it's free, I'm not re-arranging my week for you to obtain it.

My mom belonged to the Catholic Church her whole life and faithfully tithed. The priest of her parish refused to come give last rites & sent someone else. We’ve not received a single sympathy card from anyone at her church, but got one from the genealogy society she belonged to. 🤷♀️

There’s a young southern woman on tt doing an experiment: calling churches & asking if they can help her get baby formula, saying she can’t afford it. Of the 30+ she’s called, nearly every church has said no. The ones who said yes were:
Black Baptist Churches
A Mosque
A small Appalachian church

With all the shenanigans going on and big corporations behind this greedy administration, us taxpayers better not bail them out after they all go bankrupt. Between tariffs and the shutdown and starving the poor, it's going to be a slim Christmas season this year. FAFO corporate America!

Chuck Schumer played this brilliantly. If the Repugnicans aren't willing to give even a one-year extension, it is a clear demonstration that the problem with reopening the government lies with them, not Democrats. Heather Cox Richardson had a very good piece explaining the logic.

Interesting article about the world’s deadliest addiction but it’s not a drug. The trajectory of revenge for perceived wrongs in our politics and the discourse surrounding us, is extremely damaging to our brains/lives. The GOP is addicted to revenge for imagined wrongs.

The World’s Deadliest Addiction Is Popping Up on Brain Scans. And It’s Not Even a Drug.
There’s a reason our culture is so obsessed with revenge, and it starts in the brain.

Senate Democrats put an offer on the table: end the shutdown, keep the health care tax credits Republicans gutted, and stop making life harder for working families.
No more excuses. No more games.
Republicans need to take the damn deal.

The path forward is simple and achievable: reopen the government, extend the existing ACA tax credits for one year, and begin bipartisan talks on long-term healthcare affordability.
The ball is in Republicans’ court.
