The words we use to talk about AAC matter.
They shape how people feel seen and included, as well as our everyday practices.

Not just #AutRes but our sample was Autistic-heavy, and lots of Autistic people (including me!) use AAC.

To be fair to the Magistrate Judge, I do not believe it was the 375 page amended complaint that did it.

On close read, it appears that it was the 720-paragraph, 946-page proposed second amended compliant.

Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.

As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.

Here's what happened:

You can also see results of a survey that asks about co-conditions here (about ¾ of the way down; search for “comorbid conditions” to find it).

It gives responses from autistic people and family members mixed together, but has interesting questions. autisticnotweird.com/2018survey/ #AutChat

I have dated a lot of writers. To my knowledge, only one (1) ex ever wrote anything based on me. It was a truly hilarious scene in a five-scene play she composed. I attended the premiere. She is now a successful playwright. The experience was, and remains, an honor.

They literally burned that man up from Ferguson, MO who made time magazine for throwing the tear gas back at the police and I can’t even tell you when it happened because he just showed up somewhere in a burnt up car and I’m sure they called it a suicide and you wanna talk to me

I am actually 100% open to having conversations about AI, but unfortunately the conversations often start from the premise "the tools that are being found to fail ~90% of the time in actual use are inevitable"

And I disagree. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What sounds like “human” writing can never be disentangled from the fact that most of the world’s population has never been considered fully human by mainstream institutions
"The question of what makes writing "human" has become dangerously narrow... If humanity is now defined by the presence of casual errors, American-centric colloquialisms, and a certain informal, conversational rhythm, then where does that leave the rest of us?"
Crucial on how ChatGPT detectors imperil “non-native” writers of English. Esp if these were trained in colonial or colonial-like systems based on making you sound like the perfect “authoritative” “native speaker” who doesn’t even exists. Autistic futurism isn’t about “including” us in the future.

It’s about imagining futures that only make sense because autistic people are in them.

Different rhythms.

Different values.

Different ways of knowing.

Not cured.

Not managed.

Not normalised.

Alive.

Truly alive.

On our terms.
