Wherever you allow your gov to do to "non-citizens," it will eventually find a way to do to people in *your* in-groups —including you— once mainstream media and politicians have manufactured the consensus that those groups are *also* "outsiders" who are "harming the nation."
Every politician and media person — whether conservative, liberal, left, or something else— who has joined in on the scapegoating of immigrants, transgender people, poor people, and other marginalized people-groups has encouraged the growth and strengthening of today's right-wing authoritarianism.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.
he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.
situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.
