it’s a real constitutional problem — you don’t want a government of insane spartiates who see existential threats everywhere, but you also don’t want friendly games played by court eunuchs who have forgotten there’s a world outside the palace
one conclusion is that if the country ever faces a really serious threat we’ll be completely unable to deal with it

I don't know enough about Congress really, but, am I crazy to think the Senate caved primarily actually so the Republicans wouldn't get rid of the filibuster--which would be a net good--so that they wouldn't lose their excuse for never doing a single thing the Democratic base wants and demands

so, schumer has been shepherding this deal every step of the way but even if you take him at face value idk if anyone should be reassured by the concept of a senate minority leader who cannot control his own party to stop what he believes to be a catastrophic capitulation
