The abandonment of font hinting is a HUGE problem for 1-2 bit medium resolution display technologies like this that are now _extremely_ common: There can be tens of thousands of these in one retail store.

Font hinting needs to come back, like optical sizes had to come back for print.

#typography
It's a kinda cathartic feeling to improve the UI on a device.

This doesn't impact how the thing functions whatsoever, but it's super important to how it operates (that is, with a human).

low-res epaper still limiting, but makes my eyes happier! Thanks @wellreadpanda.bsky.social for her help!

The #typography is the standard Terrible, unfortunately.

Why is it that makers of these devices, unlike, say, print publishers historically (less so today) cannot consult experts on typography? This has been a big issue from the first ebook readers. &"reading modes" in browsers have the same issues.

Last time I checked the American Community Survey the estimate was 11% of Minneapolis & 8% of St Paul households don't have a vehicle (meaning car or truck)

This website says that fully **1/3** of Black Minneapolis households don't have a car

Have never forgotten going to the monthly meeting of a Section 8 housing tower literally next to I-94, which @mndot.mn.gov hopes to expand (they don't call it that, but adding a lane to big sections to have an EZ Pass lane is def expansion!)

30 residents present; I asked who has a car; 2 raise hand
This related article states: "The researchers estimate that nearly 104 million U.S. residents can't reliably use a personal automobile to get around"

I've mentioned this before: think about food. Food culture permeates across all borders, survives the worst atrocities. It is damn near impossible to kill a recipe.

Now think of how many Native American *recipes*, not ingredients, there are

That is how thorough the genocide of manifest destiny was
Because again, just fucking look at art.

Art has survived *genocides*.

What genAI promises is the ability to cast creative expression into the void in a way that *not even genocide* has been able to do.

NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.

Obviously.

But why do people think it is?

So many reasons but... I'm going to be exploring how we got here through adaptation history in a workshop so come join me!

Adobe appears to have reversed course on this. Animate is safe, at least for the immediate future.
