JR East's Suica card is handy for both travel and shopping. But the low maximum 20K yen ($129) balance means its purchasing power is limited. That's about to change, as JR East says it'll raise the limit to better compete against other cashless payment options.

I feel like I’m seeing a LOT less English signage in Tokyo this trip. It’s subtle and passive aggressive, but it’s clear they’re getting sick of us.
There is palpable delight when I can speak Japanese, as bad as my skills may be.
