Once again tapping my sign: ICE exist in the UK 🚨 They have had arrest powers since 2000. This government - not a hypothetical future one - is working harder than ever before to raid homes and businesses.
Immigration Enforcement raids at the highest level in UK history
Record number of arrests and raids of illegal workers across the UK including 187 raids in Northern Ireland leading to 234 arrests.

Listening to the coin episode of @bloodwork.show it really struck me that ice are acting like an occupation or a counterinsurgency.
fear.

they need to demonstrate that resistance is worse than useless, that it will be broken, and that their agents have impunity regardless of their actions.
So… what’s the strategic goal for the administration in Minnesota, exactly?

I’m not being cute, I don’t understand the theory of victory here and want someone to explain it to me.

I don't think the fascists understand this kind of solidarity at all. To put yourself out in these conditions for someone else is just unthinkable.

It's why they think the paid protesters line works.
It's so cold out here, I can't take pics or film for more than a minute because my fingertips hurt so much. Just looked, it's currently negative 8.

And yet, look at everyone out here, going strong, fired up, so kind to each other. Some have been singing.

With so many of us watching the tremendous mobilizations in Minneapolis, culminating in the call to action against ICE today, I wanted to share some of what I have gathered from talking to comrades in Minneapolis over the past few weeks. A few things stood out:

Me: Huh there's fewer posts from Minnesota on the general strike day than I would have expected

Me a few hours later: Oh they're BUSY
It’s -9 degrees. Downtown Minneapolis is packed for the anti-ICE rally and the crowd keeps growing

Darren Jones replies: "you shouldn't prepare for a hypothetical"

Demonstrators apparently retrieved from the cars belonging to ICE these "challenge coins" that ICE mercenaries receive when they carry out arrests.

This one is decorated with a skull wearing a crown.

ICE mercenaries serve king death. They are evil incarnate.

After ICE agents shot people in Minneapolis tonight, a crowd faced them down and eventually chased them away, despite federal mercenaries and police shooting a tremendous amount of tear gas.

ICE agents abandoned vehicles in the area, containing IDs, paperwork, license plates, and operational plans.

The reason Mayor Frey is powerless is because the cops won't listen to him. And that's true of almost every single Dem run municipality. Cops nationwide do not respect democratic legitimacy.

It really does worry me that Dem electeds don't even talk about police militarization and the lack of civilian oversight. In most metros, PDs haven't been accountable to City Hall since the early 90s at least, and I've never heard an elected talk about that.
"The question that you're basically asking is, can our cops arrest them? From a legal perspective, yes. From a practical perspective...they have bigger guns than we do." That's where we're at.

What's a good analysis of these protests? The BBC were claiming they're explicitly pro-Pahlavi, but is that broadly true, or just a few people and spin because the BBC would like to reinstall the shah?
The scale of the protests in Iran are absolutely unbelievable. Hard to quantify, but I've seen some speculation that this uprising is more significant than the 2023 protests (themselves the largest challenge to the regime since it came into power in '79.)

The oil might not be of very high quality, or likely flow at very high rates, and might need a lot of investment, but it has huge symbolic value.
trump knows "for the oil" is a compelling enough added justification for the elements of his base that wouldn't be convinced by "narco-terrorism" or migration. as with many other aspects of his rhetoric, the follow through doesn't need to happen for people to believe e.g. he lowered gas prices.
