Belgium’s Prime Minister De Wever joked to journalists that he has a dacha in Russia:

“Now I need to go to my dacha in Saint Petersburg, where my neighbor is Depardieu and across the street is Assad. I think I could be mayor of that little village,” he said adding afterward, “That was a joke.”

In the year since the dictator Assad was overturned, 3.2 million refugees have returned to Syria. Many more are waiting for the rebuilding of essential infrastructure, now underway. That’s quite a success story.

"In the end, we can only rely on ourselves. It's not a matter of the near future."

Russians sunk several barges at the entrance of their naval port pier in Novorossiysk, so that no other Ukrainian drone can enter it.

This also confines the remnants of the Russian Black Sea Fleet to this little basin. Russians literally barricaded themselves. Embarrassing..

UK to transfer €2.8bn of Abramovich’s Chelsea cash to Ukraine fund
Since the Russian billionaire sold Chelsea in 2022 under pressure from the British government, the funds from the sale have been frozen. PM Starmer is now allowing him to use it, but only for one cause: to help Ukraine.

And I repeat what I’ve been saying since 2016: no country in an actually dangerous geopolitical position can really trust a country that can elect a thing like Trump even once.

“Four years, tops” is just far too short a planning horizon for security and defence policy and procurement.

As I mentioned before, there are long-term attitudinal shifts happening amongst US allies - and they are happening at all levels of society. Trust has been burned. Countries have been humiliated, sneered at, dismissed as losers.
