A very pessimistic outlook for Russia's economy. The only way to avert disaster is to end the war, but Putin believes that Ukraine is losing faster than Russia, so he maintains the course toward the abyss.
Gifted "What Mr Putin sees is this: Europe struggling with its own structural crisis, politically fragmented and unable to agree on strategic issues—including Russia; Ukraine exhausted and dependent on Western support that wavers with each election cycle" www.economist.com/by-invitatio...

The New School was once a haven for academics fleeing fascism.

While the Ivies and conservative schools got much of the media attention last year for caving to/ collaborating with Trump, the New School flew under the radar.

NEW:

One of the most progressive institutions in the U.S., The New School, has begun destroying its humanities departments.

They have cancelled one of their most popular classes, "Global Soccer and World Politics."

We are going to teach it anyway.

I am not suicidal; I don't drink or do drugs; my blood pressure and cholesterol are normal; I don't engage in high-risk activities; my vehicles are well kept and newly serviced.

The fact that large parts of the German media landscape “reported” on this White nationalist fever dream of a speech by Rubio as merely reaffirming the transatlantic alliance is so far removed from reality that it truly makes me speechless.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio giving a speech that is basically an extended version of the ethnonationalist Proud Boys oath: “I'm a proud Western chauvinist, I refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.”
The Rubio speech really is appalling, and if you haven’t read it yet, you should.

Trevor Phillips tying himself in knots while trying to trip up Zack Polanski. Phillips gets everything embarrassingly wrong, clearly not done his homework and is roundly outclassed by Polanski
Phillips "This is not a country where people get thrown in jail for things they say"

@zackpolanski.bsky.social points out 2,700 people have been arrested for holding signs

And well done to Zack for challenging Phillips smear that 'from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' is antisemitic

Elaine Midcoh's short story, a winner of the Bulletin's Write Before Midnight contest, takes a look at an unconventional approach to the law in defense of a dying lake.
On Behalf of Lake Owakeela
