Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.

Immigration is a fake problem. We have politicians on the one hand who want to use immigrants as scapegoats for our real ones and politicians on the other who are too cowardly to stand against them and tell the truth. That is the entire situation. Until that changes, people will continue to die.

This must be weird news to see if you’re one of the literally hundreds or even thousands of university administrators who preemptively censored faculty, scrubbed websites, changed the names of centers, etc.
Trump administration drops legal appeal over anti-DEI funding threat to schools and colleges. This leaves in place a federal judge's ruling that the anti-DEI effort violated the First Amendment and federal procedural rules. (Via AP) apnews.com/article/dei-...#ncpol#nced

NEW: White House announces it's going to pause, and potentially cancel, $11 billion in infrastructure funding (via the Army Corps of Engineers), specifically citing cities, like New York, represented or led by Democrats. More to come.

Again, this is a liquidation of the union in all but letter of the law. This is reverse secessionism engineered by a central government.
No one will ever be more of an ingrate than JD Vance hating Ivy League elites and liberal media, the people who elevated his glorified college admissions essay about hating his mom

They're putting the confederate monument back up at arlington cemetery and taking down the signs about john brown & slavery at harpers ferry. A completely confederate-occupied government unashamedly trying to rehabilitate slavery

It is pretty noticeable that even as mainstream opinion on Israel and Gaza finally shifts, you don’t hear the Responsible Adults apologizing for punishing all the college kids protesting the atrocities. Quite the opposite in fact!

They like Trump and want to help him. Just generally, but also the reporters and editors covering "campus issues" - who lead the "full court press" attack to oust Claudine Gay from Harvard - *really* like Trump and want to help him
Abysmal framing, once again from The NY Times: this is not a “fight” between equals but Trump’s unilateral attack on universities theorized by Chris Rufo and Steven Miler. And wtf: “the administration’s efforts to bring elite universities to heel”?

this reminds me of the period in american politics when pundits would demand that any black politician of note — really, any black person in politics with a national audience — “condemn farrakhan”
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro chides Zohran Mamdani for not condemning other people’s antisemitism:
“He left open far too much space for extremists to either use his words or for him to not condemn the words of extremists that said some blatantly antisemitic things.”

I am going to get a full professorship at this center. I'm going to show Veggie Tales videos to a bunch of 19-year-olds who brought briefcases to class and ostentatiously cry for much of the running time. My salary will be paid by a grant from the Vlad Dracul Youth Education Initiative.
Exclusive: Harvard leaders have discussed creating a center for conservative scholarship as the school fights the Trump administration’s accusations that it is too liberal.

In a just world, every one of these Democratic senators would be primaried - especially the hypocritical Cory Booker who is wisely trying to hide his face in this picture. (Netanyahu is wanted by the ICC, a far right authoritarian, and kills innocent Palestinians on a daily basis, including today!)
