True story: Krauss was banned from CWRU campus for multiple sexual harassment episodes, including against me. You know it's bad when the dean himself confirmed it to the expose writers.

Krauss also held a physics conference on Epstein's island when I was in undergrad that included Stephen Hawking.

The latest in my free astronomy lecture series on the solar system is up- Welcome to Earth! How we study planets in the context of our own, including : how old is Earth (and the solar system)? How do craters and meteorites affect planetary surfaces? And more!

Heading to the airport now after the annual Chandra users committee meeting! For those interested- I think the telescope is legitimately in a better position now than it was a year or two ago, minus the *broad gestures affecting all US science*. Like obv no promises until the gov’t reopens, but…

Avi Loeb really is the Dr. Oz of astronomy now. Impressive CV but full of pseudoscience so no one in the field likes him any more. 🔭

So I’m in Cambridge, MA for a work thing tomorrow, so met up with an old friend for dinner. They gave us the bill with a free copy of the Constitution, which seriously feels like peak Cambridge

Exactly the kind of drama I want in my life right now: for the past month a guy's chopping a cup of chives every day until Reddit says they're perfect. Then someone noticed in his last post that he LIED and posted a doctored photo of some previous chives! 😮👀🍿

Now on @sciam.bsky.social: Astronomers are agog over this all-day gamma-ray burst.

A cosmic explosion known as GRB 250702B is by far the longest gamma-ray burst astronomers have ever seen—if it’s even one at all.

Trump just continually shooting our country in the face. This unwarranted (and likely illegal) destruction of Goddard is madness. It jeopardizes the next several decades of space exploration.
Reposting to correct an error: trump admin is quietly gutting 13 buildings and about 100 laboratories at Goddard campus that has been instrumental to Hubble and James Webb telescope missions. Staff say they’ve be locked and told to move equipment. Anything left behind will be thrown away.
NASA may be quietly gutting an iconic campus with what it calls strategic closures, workers fear
(CNN) — Alarm is growing among federal workers at NASA’s iconic Goddard Space Flight Center’s main campus in Greenbelt, Maryland — the nerve center for groundbreaking missions like the Hubble

I wrote this article! 🙂

This is IMO one of the biggest discoveries of the year, but you haven’t heard about it bc of a NASA press release/embargo stuck bc of the shutdown. I however have no such constraint (we’re tracking it in radio but haven’t finished the paper) so got to write about it! 🔭🧪

So, my class has an "I drop the lowest quiz/HW" policy bc I didn't want to deal with 200+ students asking for extensions when they're sick or missed the bus or whatever. The sheer volume of students saying a few days later "XYZ came up, can I get an extension over use my drop?" is just wild 😵‍💫

Halloween at UO is weird because half the time I feel I’m not sure if a student is in costume or just dressed like they normally would anyway. Like I’m pretty sure I’ve seen steampunk and demon hunters all fall quarter!
