Astronomer here! Iโ€™m a Hungarian-American radio astronomer, alias /r/Andromeda321 on Reddit. Assistant professor at the University of Oregon
Oh cool Avi Loeb is in the Epstein files ๐Ÿ‘€
I searched the Epstein files for astronomy and astronomers, and consistent with Sean Carroll's posts about why his name is listed, it seems like Epstein was trying to rope in scientists they perceived as smart, and scientists tried to get financial backing from him. ๐Ÿ”ญ Some examples:

I'm in there too but not named, thankfully. A certain someone seeking advice on a harassment case ongoing at our university. Of course, the email detailing what happened outright lies about the case.

Genuinely weird to know this stuff from ~20 years ago is back now w rot to the highest levels.

CNN: "Another photograph - these are notes AG Bondi brought to the hearing today. This shows a list of Rep. Jayapal's search history. Lawmakers are allowed to go to a DOJ facility to search unredacted files. We learned from this photo that the searches are apparently being tracked & read by the DOJ"

Thatโ€™s nice. My experience was once students had them even fewer showed up and paid attention Iโ€™m afraid. (They do get the slide deck after.)
February 10, 2026 at 9:43 PM
This is like when students request the slides in advance for a lecture. Iโ€™m always like Iโ€™m sure some profs are put together enough for that request but Iโ€™m not one of them

Artemis II astronauts are also doing quarantine before going to the moon! They had to start before the launch last week got shifted. After all who wants to get sick while flying around the moon

Thanks for sharing this! Itโ€™s been a bit depressing to me lately just how many normal physicists of my undergrad years I knew dealt w Epstein. Not saying itโ€™s the root cause of what made a lot of my undergrad years hard but it sure was a symptom.

I mean I lived closer to the ocean in Boston! A few more things going on than just that I suppose :)

Btw the color scale and style etc are all inspired by my one I did in 2021 when I still lived in Massachusetts. Oregon weather is much more stable it turns out!

Fun Olympics news today- my friend Lauren is there working for US Curling! Lauren preps ice (VERY involved process for the sport), and is the first woman to *ever* go from US Curling to do this- proud of her! โ˜บ๏ธ

Also, she has a physics degree, for further proof that physics can take you anywhere. ๐ŸฅŒ

For those who say American scientists will โ€œjust go abroadโ€ when funding is cut here, just a reminder that science funding is facing cuts across the globe right now ๐Ÿ˜”
February 6, 2026 at 4:06 PM
Thatโ€™s awful. It wasnโ€™t exactly *great* before this either. :(

A supermassive black hole continues to emit an exceptionally powerful radio jet from a shredded star, with projections indicating the jetโ€™s intensity may peak around 2027.

Haha yeah what can I say, a couple months in you start thinking to yourself โ€œwhat are relatable units the public can understand to take this into perspective...โ€

Hope you enjoyed it. ๐Ÿ™‚
