Whitewater's been one of the cities that's singled out during the moral panics surrounding immigration (it was named in an EO!). My colleagues and I did some public sociology in Madison's Capital Times where we put facts to paper about immigration and crime in our town.

Opinion | Whitewater shows how moral panic distorts immigrant debate
Julien Grayer and others: Despite worry about immigrant crime, we discovered that immigrants have a 60% lower chance of being incarcerated.

The idea of white people watching the news and praying the perp is not one of them is SENDING ME 😂
Governor of Utah, Spencer Cox: “For 33 hours, I was praying that if this had to happen here that it wouldn’t be one of us. Somebody from another state, somebody that came from another country. Sadly that prayer wasn’t answered the way I hoped for.”

As batshit as this is, this is also how racists "wait for more information" in the aftermath of police shootings. They really aren't waiting for more information, they're waiting to hear that all the things they believe about the "Other" is true. Cox is just more blatant about it..

Turning Point USA made a literal watch list of professors, primarily women, queer folks and people of color, and made us targets of political violence. I’ve received hate mail and harassment and death threats off and on for nearly a decade in part due to that man’s organization so 🤷🏽‍♀️

When I was young, people adultified me to assign me all tesponsibiiity.

Now that I am old, people talk to me like I’m a child, granting me no autonomy.

I do believe the colonial brain will make whatever true that it needs to be true, I swear.

I know, I know, but: The president of the US saying, literally, "we're going in" in reference to sending the military to an American city for no reason beyond terrorizing the local population should be the most immediately impeachable shit imaginable

For what it's worth, this is precisely the reason the Klan wore hoods when they terrorized communities and disappeared unfavored minorities.

Historically, it wasn't called doxxing it was just recognizing a fascist community member.

This is wild.

Where by “wild” I mean “the sort of humiliating display of racist arrogance that will harm the US’s world-wide reputation in ways that will be impossible to fully repair in my lifetime.”

The canard of "anti-white discrimination" & "special preference" has been a bog standard argument of white supremacists and anti-civil rights reactionaries going back over 100 years (see Andrew Johnson's rationale for vetoing the CRA of 1866).
They are segregationist and this will be open season for discrimination.

“the Attorney General shall initiate appropriate action to repeal or amend the implementing regulations for Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for all agencies to the extent they contemplate disparate-impact liability”
My god. He’s gone after the Civil Rights Act!!!!

Can’t say there’s disparate impact if you prevent analyses of data from happening or being considered at all. Without data & analysis, you can’t hold people accountable for perpetuating inequalities.
