Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

I stitched a thing! Kit by Paraffle, the design is simple and fun, but I am *never* using the new trendy stick-on water-soluble stuff to transfer an embroidery design to fabric again. I don't care how much easier it is, stitching through glue was Not Fun. But I like this.

Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?

This is utterly disgraceful.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

A very early entry in the "googly eyes make everything better" stakes...
This beautiful seal bag, embroidered with the Royal Arms of England, was made in 1280 to protect the wax seal attached to a charter from the reign of Edward I. It's a fine example of 'opus anglicanum' - highly-prized English embroideries with gold and silver thread.

It ain't hard to see, as Taylor Swift sings...
Nothing to see here, just one of half a million Giant Redwoods in Britain

Of course it’s still a long trek to visit them in the wild, even in the Kingdom of Kent. This one is 20 yards off Tonbridge High Street 🥵🌲

Whatever else comes out once the attack on the ECML train last night, this alone is a credit to the train crew, driver, and signalling team.

Huntingdon was the first possible stop. In a highly stressful situation and improvising a plan the train lost just 3 minutes vs line speed to get there.

To celebrate our new bigger sofa (and all being able to sit on the sofa together for the first time in tears), tonight was Family Film Night. For perfectly logical reasons, the children chose Goodbye Lenin. We all enjoyed it a lot.

Today involves getting an old and collapsing sofa out of an extremely small (by British housing standards) sitting room and into the front garden for collection. By me and two teenagers, one of whom will have a sore arm and a grievance about it (vaccination catch up session).

Frodo wakes. ‘Where am I?’

‘In the House of Elrond. It is ten o’clock in the morning. The morning of October the twenty-fourth, if you want to know.’

‘Gandalf!’

‘Yes, I am here. And you are lucky to be here, too, after all the absurd things you have done since you left home.’

Kit Whitfield's Austen takes are always worth the read.
Another AUSTEN TAKE, babies! This time: why 'Mary Crawford is more fun than Fanny Price' isn't a good take.

Because Mary isn't a rebel. She's a status-quo enforcer.

How do we balance disagreeing with Austen's sexual morals without missing her point? 1/
